Recapish

The Binghamton Mets bullpen blew another late lead Thursday afternoon in Erie, dropping the team back to 10 games under .500 and missing an opportunity to convert the sweep. The B-Mets middle infield combo of Phillip Evans at SS and L.J. Mazzilli at 2B had a very nice day, combining for most of the Binghamton offense and some solid defense up the middle.
The B-Mets were in control of this game from early until the very end thanks to a big 2nd inning. Mazzilli launched his first Double-A homerun to cap a 4-run frame and then Mickey Jannis went to work.
After stranding a pair of runners in the 1st inning, Jannis would retire 12 straight before the Sea Wolves finally got to him for a run with two outs in the 5th. A Connor Harrell double broke up the streak, and Drew Longley singled him home. There was more two out trouble for Jannis in the 6th, and this time big Dean Green knocked in a run with a double to CF. The B-Mets extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the 7th, but Harrell got the run right back for Erie with a solo blast in the bottom half.
David Roseboom and Akeel Morris combined to strikeout the side in the 8th, and Akeel added two more K’s in the 9th, but in total the B-Mets pen combined to walk 5 batters over 2 IP. With two on and two outs, Morris was allowed to face the lefty Green even though Baldonado had been warming in the pen. Morris had K’d two straight but Green worked out a walk against him. Manager Pedro Lopez then brought in Baldonado to face Corey Jones with the bases loaded, and Jones quickly cleared those bases with a walkoff double to RF.
The B-Mets were off to Altoona after the game to start a weekend series with the Curve (30-22). Tyler Pill (3-5, 4.13 ERA) is scheduled to start the opener, which is set for Friday at 7 PM.

MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights

L.J. Mazzilli capped a big 2nd inning with his first Double-A homer! Dominic Smith sparked the rally with a leadoff single. Matt Oberste followed with a single of his own and Colton Plaia would bring Smith home with a two out single of his own. After Stefan Sabol walked to extend the frame, Mazzilli launched the blast to left center field.

Not sure it actually cleared... but w/e

Phillip Evans picked up his 5th double in the last 4 games leading off the 3rd inning. Evans added a single in the 5th and an RBI single in the 7th.

L.J. Mazzilli had a great day in the field too, making a nice play to his left and to his right.
