Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s were again off to a hot start Friday night in Albuquerque, but
Rafael Montero couldn’t keep the good vibes rolling, blowing an early lead and
taking the L. The 51s bats were hot early against Isotopes starter Jordan Lyles,
but they couldn’t get to the Albuquerque pen late in this game.
After
both finished with 4 hits Thursday night, Dilson Herrera and Travis Taijeron
started their nights with doubles in the 1st inning Friday night.
Unfortunately Dilson would be thrown out at home trying to score on a
groundout/run on contact play. Taijeron’s double brought home Johnny Monell to
give Las Vegas a 2-0 lead.
Montero
was laboring throughout the start and hit hard, and then Wally left him in for
way too long in the 4th, when he threw 48 pitches. Josh Smoker was
called to work the 5th inning and his recent struggles continued, as
he was tagged for two runs on a pair of doubles. The final Isotopes run came
against the other hard throwing 51s reliever who has allowed a lot of runs this
season, Jeff Walters.
I
break down the scoring highlights below, so enjoy! This series continues
Saturday night at 9:05 PM, with Robert Gsellman scheduled to make his Triple-A
debut.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Dilson
Herrera led off the game with an extra base hit for the second straight night,
this time settling for a double to LF. He was unfortunately thrown out at the
plate two batters later, but the 51s still managed to jump out to a 2-0 lead
thanks to RBI hits from Johnny Monell and Travis Taijeron.
Gavin
Cecchini hit his second blast of the year with one out in the 3rd
inning.
Dilson
led off the 5th inning with his second double of the game and 18th
overall this season. He’d come around to score on a sac fly from Cecchini this
time. Kyle Johnson finished with a pair of hits, including a line drive single into CF in the eighth.
