Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets rode one of Rainy Lara best starts as a pro to their fifth
straight win Friday night, taking the opener in New Hampshire 4-1. Lara didn’t
have his swing-and-miss stuff working, but he kept the Fisher Cats off the base paths, although the only hit he did allow left the park.
Dominic
Smith put the B-Mets up early with his second bomb of the year in the 1st
inning. It came of an 86 MPH fastball and just cleared the LF fence. Niuman
Romero had a big night for Binghamton again, singling to keep the 1st
inning alive, and then driving home a run in the 3rd. The B-Mets
added another run in the 5th and were up 4-0 before the Cats had a
hit.
Lara walked two batters in this game,
but both were erased on double plays, so he ended up facing just one over the
minimum. Victor Cruzado helped him out with an outfield assist for the double
play in the 5th inning, doubling Roemon Fields off at 2B to end the
frame – Romero gets an assist on the play for getting the tag down just in time.
Beck Wheeler came on for the final two innings despite Lara’s low pitch count.
Wheeler would allow a pair of baserunner’s, but he struck out 3 Cats over his 2
innings of work, including Dwight Smith Jr. to finish the game.
I look at the details from this
game with highlights below, so enjoy! This series continues Saturday evening at
5:35 PM, with Mickey Jannis (1-1, 4.70 ERA) scheduled to start for the B-Mets
after gutting
out 4 innings with no control in his last start to help the B-Mets start
their winning streak.
Scoring Highlights
Niuman
Romero had another big night at the plate, and got his night started with a two
out single in the 1st inning. Dominic Smith then came through with
the biggest hit of the game, launching a two run bomb that just cleared the
wall in LF.
Jared
King led off the 3rd inning with a single, stole 2B, and then scored
on Romero’s second hit of the game.
Matt
Oberste picked up his first hit of the night leading off the 4th
inning, but he’d be stranded at 3B.
Maikis
De La Cruz pulled a one out double into the LF corner with one out in the 5th
inning, and Oberste’s second hit of the game would bring him home three batters
later.
De
La Cruz and Colton Plaia added singles later in the game, but the B-Mets would
get nothing out of them.
Defensive Highlights
Maikis
De La Cruz ran a long way to catch this fly out right in front of the wall in
the 3rd inning.
