Recapish

For a second straight night, the Binghamton Mets had a lead with two outs in the 9th and an Akeel Morris walk opened the door for their opponent to come back and tie the game. They’d eventually lose on a walkoff in Akron Wednesday night, but home field advantage Thursday night offered them a chance to win it in the 9th. Unfortunately, they couldn’t even get a baserunner in the 9th, and then Erie added on another pair of runs off of Akeel in the 10th. Xorge Carrillo would double in the bottom of the 10th inning, but the next 3 B-Mets went down quietly.
Barbosa wasn’t as sharp as when he made a spot start for Las Vegas last week, but he left the team in a good position to win and had some strong innings. Akeel has been experiencing command problems lately, but hopefully this is just a little blip. Not sure why he’d be sent out for the 10th considering he blew a save for a second straight night in the 9th, I don’t know what you expect from a guy there?
The offense came in with a .217 team batting average, but the 11 hits raised that up to .223. Tim Heiman had the following update on Jeff McNeil, “He tweaked his lower body on the last home stand.” I break this game down in more detail below, so enjoy! This series continues in Binghamton Friday night at 7:05 PM, with Rainy Lara scheduled to take the hill for the B-Mets.

Scoring Highlights

Derrik Gibson gave the B-Mets their first lead in the in 1st inning with a one out, one-run homerun. Dominic Smith nearly took the pitchers glove off with a single to CF two batters later. After Smith stole 2B (!), Matt Oberste singled him home to give Binghamton a 2-0 lead – a Dom Smith speed created run! (It took a bobble by the catcher and later the center fielder, but still!)

Stefan Sabol drew a one out walk in the 4th and then took a slow trot home after Xorge Carrillo launched an absolute blast to RF. Maikis De La Cruz would follow with a single to LF, steal 2B, advance to 3B on a throwing error, and then come home on a sac fly from Niuman Romero.

Carrillo led off the 6th with a single into RF. He went to 2B on a wild pitch and scored when L.J. Mazzilli grounded a single into CF.

Victor Cruzado picked up a single in the 7th, which advanced Matt Oberste (walk) to 3B with one out, and then Stefan Sabol brought him home with a sac fly.

Smith picked up an RBI single with two outs in the 8th, but Niuman Romero would be thrown out at home on the play to end the frame – it went 9242.

Carrillo’s third hit was a double leading off the 10th inning.

Defensive Highlights

Dominic Smith made a nice less toss to Luis Mateo covering 1B on a bunt in the 8th inning.
