Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s struggles to hit with runners in scoring position continued Thursday
night in Sacramento, which led to minimal run support behind an excellent
Gabriel Ynoa. Ynoa allowed a pair of singles over the first 2 innings, but then
settled down to retire 13 straight at one point before a 7th inning
walk led to his departure. The 51s were handed a gift in their half of the 7th,
as Martin Agosta walked the bases loaded on 12 pitches. Unfortunately, they
couldn’t score, as Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo, and Matt Reynolds all hit
groundouts on the infield to end the threat. Josh Smoker did a great job
finished the 7th with two strikeouts, but was then allowed to face
one batter in the 8th, who would walk and then come around to score
the tying run. Jeff Walters retired the first two in the 9th on
strikeouts, but a walk kept the inning alive, and then Gorkys Hernandez
provided the walkoff blast for Sacramento.
I
break this game down further with highlights below, so enjoy! This series wraps
up Friday night at 10:05 PM ET in Sacramento, with Sean Gilmartin expected to
make the start for Las Vegas.
Scoring Highlights
Matt
Reynolds picked up his hit with two outs in the 1st inning, but
would be stranded at 1B.
Travis
Taijeron led off the 2nd inning with his third double of the year,
went to 3B on an infield single from Gavin Cecchini, and then scored on a ac
fly off the bat of Marc Krauss.
Brandon
Nimmo added a one out single in the 3rd inning, but the 51s couldn’t
advance him beyond 1B either.
Taijeron
led off the 4th with a single into RF, stole 2B, went to 3B on a fly
out, and then stayed there until the inning was over.
Defensive Highlights
I’ve
seen a lot of Brandon Nimmo in CF since he joined the B-Mets in 2014, and his
range has always been good out there. He showed it off while tracking down a
deep fly ball in the 6th inning.

*10.3% Swinging strike rate
First pitch strike to 14/23 batters faced (61%)
Ynoa
would work around a single in each of the first two innings and then a leadoff
walk issued to the opposing pitcher in the 3rd inning. He’d strike
out Juan Ciriaco for the second out of the 3rd and his first
strikeout of the night.
After
that 3rd inning walk, Ynoa would set down 13 straight before issuing
another walk. During that time, Ynoa would strikeout Albert Suarez to end the 5th
inning, and then Ciriaco again in the 6th inning.
Josh Smoker
Smoker
was called in after Ynoa’s 7th inning walk and struck out both
batters he faced in the frame: George Kottaras and Gorkys Hernandez.
