Recapish

The Binghamton Mets offensive struggles continued Friday night against Erie, as the team was held to just 2 runs as they fell 3 games under .500. Tyler Pill turned in his first strong start of the season, but he left trailing 2-1 after 6. Erie would add a pair of insurance runs in the 8th on a homerun from big Dean Green, which proved key when the B-Mets picked up their second run of the game in the bottom half of the frame. Dominic Smith had a nice night at the plate, hitting a double to the wall, and adding a single off both a righty and a lefty (see below).
I was out all night, so I didn’t really get to follow this game. I’ve added the few offensive highlights below, but I won’t have the time to review this game further any time soon. This series continues Saturday in Binghamton at 1:05 PM, with Rainy Lara scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.

Scoring Highlights

Derrik Gibson spark the 1st inning run with a one out single lined into RF – he advanced to 2B when the right fielder misplayed the hop. Dominic Smith brought him home with an RBI double two batters later to give the B-Mets a 1-0 lead early. Matt Oberste followed with his first hit of the night, but Erie kept the ball on the infield, so Smith wasn’t able to advance. This proved big when Victor Cruzado reached on a fielding error by second baseman Kody Eaves and Smith could only advance to 3B.

Maikis De La Cruz picked up his hit with one out in the 5th.

Smith and Oberste picked up back-to-back singles with two outs in the 6th inning, but they’d be stranded on 1B and 2B.

Smith picked up his third hit of the night with a single in the 8th inning that advanced Gibson (walk) to 3B. Gibson came home when Eaves made his second fielding error of the game on a ball hit by Oberste.

Defensive Highlights

Matt Oberste made a great play to start and finish a double play in the 7th inning.
