That’s 13 players who came through
the ranks with the Mets (I’m including Logan Verrett, despite his Rule-5
excursion) + another 2 who made their MLB debut with the Mets.
Still waiting on official minor
league rosters – I’ll have posts up when they come out – but a couple of minor
leaguers have been told where they are going and shared. Dash Winningham’s brother Moose
announced on Facebook that Dash was going to Columbia. He’ll be joined there by
2015 draft pick Witt Haggard, per The
Meridian Star. The B-Mets should have a new lefty closer in Dave Roseboom,
per CBS6Albany.
3/25 – The Mets released RH RP Buddy Carlyle. Carlyle had
been a good soldier within the org. the past few seasons, but there is no spot
for him at the major league level, and the Mets have plenty of internal options
to fill the upper level minor league pens now.
3/30 – The Mets sold the rights of minor leaguer Ricardo
Jacquez to the Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League.
4/1 – Erik Goeddel, Sean Gilmartin, Matt Reynolds, Johnny
Monell, and Zack Thornton were sent to AAA.
3/30 – The Mets released Yeixon Ruiz and Luis Chirinos. Ruiz
was a super-utility type that never hit enough. Chirinos is a RHP who was added
earlier in the offseason after spending most of the last 5 seasons in Indy
ball.
3/28 – The Mets released Jose Celas, Brandon Welch, and
Carlos Valdez. Valdez started last year with Savannah, but struggled mightily
and was demoted after only 7 appearances. Celas impressed near the end of last
years extended spring training, but then control problems and an injury kept
him from shining with Brooklyn. Welch was the Mets 5th round pick in
2012, but he never made it beyond Brooklyn.
3/30 – The Mets released outfielder Michael Bernal. The Mets
signed Bernal out of the Dominican Republic in June 2010, and he’s always shown
nice power, but he’s also struck out nearly 32% of the time in rookie ball.
