With
the Mets brass in town for the NL East Champion ring ceremony, Lynn Worthy of Press
Connects sat down to talk with Sandy Alderson. Sandy said he, “hopes to get
the system back healthy so he can deplete it again.”
Adam Rubin’s Farm Report always has good info, and this week he focuses on B-Mets reliever Mike Hepple.
Worthy provided an update on Jeff McNeil’s injury – turns out it is a sports hernia, which could keep him out awhile.
Jacob Resnick of MetsMinors says the B-Mets steady defense has kept the team from falling off.

*11.6% Swinging strike rate
First pitch strike to 21/29 batters faced (72%)
Pre-game notes: Tyler Pill looks to make it two straight nice starts after 6 strong innings Friday, and the B-Mets look to get back to .500. The B-Mets have scored the first run the past two games, which wouldn’t be unusual except that both times came without the benefit of a hit. Dominic Smith is 11-25 with two doubles and two walks during a 6-game hitting streak – his 8-game strikeout streak isn’t pretty though.

*9.1% Swinging strike rate
First pitch strike to 20/29 batters faced (69%)
Pre-game notes: Luis
Guillorme snapped a two-game hitless streak with two hits yesterday – he needs
to be unleashed at SS. Tomas Nido snapped the same streak the same way, and
both of his hits were ground-rule doubles off the warning track. Amed Rosario
had multiple hits for the 5th time in his last 10 games yesterday,
and he has 8 XBH during that span – 2 2B, 4 3B, 2 HR. Wuilmer Becerra hasn’t
been ready to play in the field yet (he’s not ready to throw with his sore
shoulder), but he’s had a hit in 8 of 9 games since returning to the lineup,
with multiple hits in 5 of those games. Since allowing 2 R (1 ER) in his first
appearance, Alberto Baldonado has thrown 9.2 scoreless innings over his last 6
appearances.

*19.4% Swinging strike rate
First pitch strike to 21/27 batters faced (78%)
Pre-game notes: Chase
Ingram induced 20 swinging strikes from 35 Lexington swing attempts yesterday.
Ingram now has 28 K: 4 BB in his first 22 IP with Columbia. Vinny Siena
extended his on base streak to 19-straight to start the season with Columbia –
best in the minors. After yesterday, Christian Montgomery has allowed just 1 ER
over his last 7 IP (3 G) – he has 8 K: 1 BB during that span. Alex Palsha has 8
K: 1 BB over his last 3.2 IP, with only 1 H and 1 BB allowed during those 2
appearances. Tucker Tharp has a 9-game hitting streak to start the season, even
coming through with a pinch-hit RBI single on 4/23.
Ivan Wilson is 4-7 with a 2B and HR over his last 2 games, but more
importantly, 0 K’s! It’s the second time he’s done that in 2016, he did that
twice in 2015 (one streak lasting 4 games), 0 times in 2014, and twice in 2013
(one streak lasting 3 games) – his 27.7 K% represents huge progress from his
34.5% combined rate last year. Dash Winningham is 12-26 during a 7-game hitting
streak for Columbia, and he has more walks (7) than strikeouts (6) so far in
2016.
Minors MVP of the Day
– LJ Mazzilli had a 3-hit night, including a double, which is best in my eyes.
Minors Cy of the Day
– On a night when all 3 minor league starters went at least 7 innings, Tyler Pill gets the nod because he might've thrown a complete game shutout if allowed to pitch the ninth.
