Recapish

Marcos Molina allowed a three run bomb with two outs in the 1st and Hartford never looked back Wednesday night, as they took a 7-1 win to gain a 2-1 edge in this four-game series. Molina would settle in for five very strong innings after the 1st, but the Rumble Ponies bats couldn’t get much going against Yard Goats starter Yency Almonte, the Rockies #12 prospect per MLB.com. Hartford made this game a laugher with two runs against both Luis Mateo and Kelly Secrest over the final two frames.
The first two Yard Goats reached against Molina in the 1st, but he had a chance to get out of the jam with no runs allowed after retiring the next two in a row, which included a strikeout of Brian Mundell. Unfortunately for the Ponies, Phillies #8 prospect Dom Nunez would not let that happen. Nunez connected for his eighth homer of the season to give the Yard Goats a 3-0 lead.

Binghamton managed just four hits Wednesday night, all of which came against Almonte:
Matt Oberste singled leading off the 2nd.

Champ Stuart tripled home Molina for the Ponies only run in the 3rd.

L.J. Mazzilli singled Oberste to second base in both the 4th and 6th innings.

Molina allowed just four hits the rest of the way and struck out six. His whiff rate really improved after the 1st inning, so I wonder if he got some good advice from his pitching coach in between innings.

Mateo and Secrest both allowed leadoff extra base hits in the 8th and 9th innings, respectively, as the Yard Goats extended their lead to 7-1. Mateo faced four batters, allowed a homer and two walks, but struck out Brendan Rodgers on three pitches. Secrest finished with two strikeouts over his 1.2 IP.

After never really being in this game, the Ponies will give the ball to Chris Flexen fresh off the DL as they look to even the series.
