Recapish
The
Binghamton Rumble Ponies completed a sweep in Reading Sunday afternoon, winning
7-5 behind a quality start from Casey Delgado. Marcos Molina had initially been
in Friday’s game notes to make this start, but he’s been moved to the DL, and
so Delgado stepped up for Binghamton. The Fightin’s scratched out a pair of
runs against Delgado early, but then he settled in for one of his better starts
of the season as his teammates clawed their way back into this game. The Ponies
went just 1-9 with runners in scoring position, but they took control of this
game with five runs between the 6th and 7th innings thanks
to some sloppy execution from Reading.
Kevin
Kaczmarski gave the Ponies an early 1-0 lead with his third homer of the
season. Matt Oberste and Kevin Taylor also singled in the frame, but they’d be
stranded on the corners.
Reading
jumped ahead in the bottom of the 1st on three singles and a walk.
Jiandido Tromp came through with a bases loaded single to tie the game and then
the go-ahead run came home on a groundout.
David
Thompson’s hit came in the 2nd. Kacz led off the 3rd with
a single, went to second on a wild pitch, to third on a passed ball, and then
came around to tie the game on a sac fly.
After
a long 21-pitch 1st, Casey Delgado made quick work of Reading over
his next three frames, needed just 29 pitches for the next nine outs. He ran
into trouble in the 5th, when Angelo Mora reached on a
strikeout-wild pitch and eventually came around to score and make this a 3-2
game. Delgado didn’t let the 5th snowball on him though, and he was
able to finish his night on a high note with a perfect 6th.
Before
Delgado finished his night, the Ponies gave him a lead for the second time in
the top of the 6th. Oberste started the frame with a single and then
came around to score on an E6. Kevin Taylor reached third on that error, and
came home one batter later on a sac fly.
Binghamton
took control of this game against a very wild Alberto Tirado in the 7th.
Tirado has long had great stuff, but no idea how to control it. He threw just
10 of 32 pitches for strikes, walked four, hit another, and left with the Ponies
ahead 7-3. The only Bingo hit in the frame was an Oberste double, his 15th
of the season and it brought home two runs.
The
Ponies also got leadoff hits from Champ Stuart and Luis Guillorme in the 8th,
but they couldn’t get either runner home for some insurance.
Kelly
Secrest came out of the Ponies pen to take over for Delgado in the 7th
and Reading quickly got some of those runs back. They’d score two runs on three
singles and a sac fly to make this a 7-5 game. Secrest finished the frame with
a strikeout and went back out for the 8th, but he quickly found
himself in trouble again, so Tim Peterson had to take over with the bases
loaded and two outs. Fortunately for Binghamton, Peterson escaped the jam on a
groundout and worked a scoreless 9th to close out the game.
Looking
ahead, the Ponies home stand continues with an early week series against Akron.
