Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s dropped their second straight in Albuquerque Saturday night, as
the Isotopes pitching staff limited the 51s offense to just one run. Las Vegas
starter Wilfredo Boscan matched Friday’s starter Donovan Hand with six innings
of two-run ball, but Boscan got even less support from his offense and relief
than Hand had received. The 51s struggled to generate offense because all eight
of their hits were singles and they were involved in three double plays
Albuquerque’s
Jordan Patterson tripled and scored the games first run in the bottom of the 2nd.
Boscan would face just one batter over the minimum over his next three frames,
but then ran into trouble again in the 6th. The Isotopes connected
for three singles and a sac fly to make this a 2-0 game in the 6th.
The
51s scattered five singles over the first six innings, and two of those runners
were erased on double plays: Dom Smith singled in the 1st, Travis
Taijeron hit his in the 2nd and 4th innings, Wilfredo Boscan
singled in the 3rd, Gavin Cecchini singled but was thrown out as
part of a K/CS double play in the 6th.
Las
Vegas finally broke through for a run in the 7th to make it a 2-1
game. Taijeron worked a walk and came around to score on back-to-back singles
from Josh Rodriguez and Phillip Evans.
Just
like in game one Friday night, as soon as the 51s pulled to within a run, the
Isotopes responded with multiple runs against the Las Vegas pen. Luis Mateo was
the victim this time. He issued two walks and uncorked a wild pitch in the
frame, as the Isotopes doubled their score to make this a 4-1 game.
Outside
of a two out single from Cecchini in the 8th, he 51s went down
quietly after that.
Looking
ahead, the 51s will try to salvage a game from this series Sunday night behind
Ricky Knapp.
