Mets Organizational Playoff Odds, August 17, 2015

Reviewing the postseason chances for the Mets and their affiliates.

While the Mets still have about 6 weeks of baseball left, their minor league affiliates are closing in on their final 1-3 weeks, and all are in a good position to make a postseason run. I will be posting updates on what it will take for the Mets and their affiliates to make the postseason here.

New York Mets

Current record: 63-55, 1^st place in the NL East

Games ahead: 4.5 Games ahead of Washington

Elimination number: 41

Games remaining: 44

Path to the Postseason: Stay in 1^st place in the NL East. The Mets are currently 5 games behind the second wild card spot, so their best chance is to win the division.

Las Vegas 51s

Current record: 66-56, 1^st place in the Pacific Southern division of the PCL

Games ahead: 1.5 Games ahead of El Paso

Elimination number: 22

Games remaining: 22

Path to the Postseason: Stay in 1^st place in their division. El Paso has been surging in the standings lately, gaining 4 games on Las Vegas over their last 10. El Paso currently has the head-to-head advantage in wins (7 wins for El Paso: 5 wins for Las Vegas) with 4 games left between the teams.

Binghamton Mets

Current record: 65-54, 2^nd place in the Eastern division of the EL

Games behind/ahead: 3.5 Games behind Reading for 1^st place, 3.5 games ahead of Trenton for a playoff spot

Elimination number: 20

Games remaining: 23

Path to the Postseason: Stay within the top two spots of the Eastern division. Reading has won 9 of 10 games to take over 1^st place, and currently has the edge in head-to-head matchups (2: 1), with 4 games left between the teams. Trenton also has the head-to-head matchup (8: 6) with 0 games left between the teams.

St. Lucie Mets

Current record: 25-24, 4^th place in the South division of the FSL (60-59 overall)

Games behind: 8 games behind Palm Beach in the 2^nd half standings

Elimination number: 12

Games remaining: 19

Path to the Postseason: Don’t lose. Even then, it will be tough to catch Palm Beach.

Savannah Sand Gnats

Current record: 31-17, 1^st place in the Southern division of the SAL (70-48 overall)

Games ahead: 3 Games ahead of Asheville

Elimination number: 19

Games remaining: 21

Path to the Postseason: Already locked up a spot with a 1^st half division title, but are looking to sweep the division.

Brooklyn Cyclones

Current record: 25-30, Last place in the McNamara division of the NYPL

Games behind: 3.5 Games behind Staten Island in the division, 5 games behind State College for the wild card spot

Elimination number: 19

Games remaining: 20

Path to the Postseason: The easier path would be to overcome the 3.5 game deficit in the division, especially since they have 12 games left against the 3 other teams in their division. They are currently tied with Vermont for the second worst record in the NYPL.

Kingsport Mets

Current record: 28-24, tied with Elizabethton for 1^st place

Games ahead: 2 Games ahead of Greeneville, 3 games ahead of Bristol, 4 games ahead of Johnson City

Elimination number: 16 (Elizabethton), 14 (Greeneville), 13 (Bristol), 11 (Johnson City)

Games remaining: 15

Path to the Postseason: Stay in 1^st place. They have 7 games left against teams within the division – 3 against Bristol, 1 against Greeneville, and then 3 against Elizabethton (from August 23-29) – and of those 3 teams, they only currently have the head-to-head advantage against Elizabethton.

GCL Mets

Current record: 25-24, 3^rd place in the East division of the GCL

Games behind: 2 Games behind the GCL Cardinals for 1^st place, and 1 game behind the GCL Marlins

Elimination number: 10

Games remaining: 11. Final game is against the GCL Nationals on 8/29 at 10 AM.

Path to the Postseason: Finish with the best record in their division. They have 4 games left against the Marlins and 2 against the Cardinals over the final 2 weeks, so they have a chance to separate themselves from those teams.

DSL Mets1

Current record: 32-34, tied for 4^th place in the Boca Chica South division, 16 games behind the DSL Giants

Eliminated

DSL Mets2

Current record: 40-26

Games behind: 2 Games behind the DSL Cubs and the DSL Red Sox2 for 3^rd place in the San Pedro de Macoris division

Elimination number: 5

Games remaining: 6. Final game is against the DSL Brewers on 8/22 at 10:30 AM.
