Recap
The
B-Mets offensive attack never let up Friday night in New Hampshire, which led
to 9 runs on 16 hits as they won the opener against the Fisher Cats. B-Mets
starter Gabriel Ynoa allowed multiple walks for first time since 6/22 (a span
of 9 starts between occurrences), but this was the fourth time in his last five
outings that he surrendered more hits than IP (he has a 4.55 ERA with 40 hits
over 29.2 IP total over his last 5 starts). Ynoa still proved more than capable
of holding onto the big league handed to him by the B-Mets offense, limiting
the Cats to 3 runs over 6 innings for a ‘quality start’. Gavin Cecchini was
given a game off for the first time in nearly two months, and T.J. Rivera would
commit an error filling in for him at SS, but Ynoa worked around it. Every
B-Mets player had a hit except Vince Belnome, including 6 players with multiple
hits, because it was just one of those nights when everything was turning up
B-Mets – check out the scoring highlights below. Jeff Walters and Akeel Morris
threw scoreless innings in relief of Ynoa, but a pair of one out walks in the
9th would come back to burn Josh Smoker.
This
series continues Saturday night at 6:05 PM, with Mickey Jannis (AA debut) and
Tyler Pill (3-0, 1.59 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets in a
double-header.
The
B-Mets got the scoring started right away, with T.J. Rivera doubling home L.J.
Mazzilli (single) from 1B on the fifth pitch of the game. After Rivera came
home on an RBI groundout, Brock Peterson picked up his second triple since
joining the B-Mets.
Jared
King hit a one out single in the 2nd inning, but then got picked off
and caught stealing 2B. Gilbert Gomez followed with a double, but he’d be
thrown out trying to score on a single from L.J. Mazzilli. So, in the 2nd,
the B-Mets picked up 3 straight hits, including a double, and score 0 runs.
Joe
Benson and Peterson hit back-to-back singles in the 3rd inning, and
then Jonathan Galvez doubled them both home two batters later.
King
led off the 4th inning with a double, and then Rivera single him
home with a two out single to CF.
The
Fisher Cats got a pair of runs back in the 4th inning, with a
leadoff single from Melky Mesa sparking the rally. After Ryan Schimpf replaced
him on the base paths by hitting into a force out, K.C. Hobson doubled him to
3B, and Derrick Chung brought him home with a sac fly. Matt Newman followed
with an RBI double to make it a 5-2 game.
Galvez
hit a solo blast with two outs in the 5th inning.
L.J.
Mazzilli hit his 17th double of the season with two outs in the 6th,
but the B-Mets would leave the bases loaded in the frame.
A
two out walk to Jorge Flores led to a third run for New Hampshire in the 6th.
Shane Optiz singled him to 2B, and then Roemon fields brought him home with an
RBI single to CF.
The
B-Mets scored 3 runs in the 7th inning when 4 straight batters
reached with one out: Galvez walked, Xorge Carrillo singled him to 2B, King
double him home, and then Gomez singled home both Carrillo and King.
Josh
Smoker lost control early in his 9th inning appearance for
Binghamton, walking back-to-back batters with one out, and then he was be
burned by a two run double off the bat of Chung.
