Recap
Las
Vegas jumped ahead big early against New Orleans, and then never looked back as
they took the series finale. Johnny Monell led the way on offense for the 51s,
but it was really a team effort, with even starting pitcher Darin Gorski joining
the hit party – see below for full scoring details and some highlights. Gorski was
wild on the mound early, throwing only ~50% strikes over the first 2 innings
while allowing a pair of runs. He worked around trouble in the 3rd and
4th innings, and left with a 10-3 lead after 5. New Orleans started
mounting a comeback after Gorski left, closing to 10-6 by the 7th,
but then Zack Thornton and Scott Rice closed things out over the final two
frames.
The
51s travel to Texas to open a series with the Round Rock Express Thursday
night, and Tim Stauffer (3-0, 2.75 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas at 8:05
PM.
With
two outs in the 1st inning, a walk to Eric Campbell opened the door
for a 3-run frame. Johnny Monell followed with his first hit of the day, and
then Plaw singled home Soup for a 1-0 lead. Brandon Allen then provided the big
hit of the inning, bringing home two runs with a triple just fair down the RF line.
Darin
Gorski issued a leadoff walk to Isaac Galloway in the 1st inning,
and then Vinny Rottino would single him home with two outs.
Gorski
has kept a high batting average at the plate this year, and he helped himself
with a one out single in the 2nd today. Darrell Ceciliani would
double him home two batters later, with Dilson Herrera (walk) advancing to 3B
on the play. Monell would later drive both runners in for the 51s second
straight 3-run frame.
Galloway
doubled home Austin Wates in then 2nd to make it a 6-2 game.
Monell
would hit a two run bomb in the 4th inning, driving in Eric Campbell
(single) along the way.
Matt
Reynolds sparked the final Las Vegas rally of the game with a leadoff single in
the 5th. He’d advanced to 2B on a single to RF off the bat of Eric
Young, and both runners moved up on a sac bunt from Gorski, before scoring on a
pair of fielder’s choice groundouts.
Rottino
led off the bottom of the 5th with a double for New Orleans, and
then Austin Nola singled him home two batters later.
Kevin
Plawecki added a leadoff double in the 6th, but the 51s could get
nothing out of the frame. Travis Taijeron joined the hit party with a single in the 9th.
New
Orleans would load the bases with one out in the 6th inning, but
they could manage only one run on an RBI single from Donavan Solano before Nola
ended the threat with a double play groundout.
Kila
Ka’aihue led off the 7th inning with a double, and then came home on
a wild pitch two batters later. Reid Brignac would single home Juan Diaz later
in the frame to make this a 10-6 game.
Defensive Highlights
The
51s turned a 6-4-3 double play started by Daniel Muno in the 6th
inning, and then Dilson Herrera making a nice play in the 9th
inning.
