Recap
After
a couple of 1st inning errors gave Bowie a 2-0 lead Wednesday night,
the B-Mets pitching went into shutdown mode, allowing just 5 Bowie base runners
over the final 8 frames. Binghamton made the most of their chances on offense
in this game, making the Baysox pay for issuing a walk with the bases empty in
3 separate innings. After allowing the pair of runs in the 1st inning,
Robert Gsellman was very sharp, retiring 12 straight before Drew Dosch reached
on a two out single in the 5th inning. The Mets are being very
careful with Gsellman’s innings count down the stretch to make sure he is ready
for the AA postseason, so he’s thrown just 5 IP in each of his last 2 starts, needing
less than 70 pitches in both outings. He’s already surpassed his innings total
from 2014, so there’s still a chance he gets skipped for a start to keep him
fresh for September.
This
series wraps up Thursday night at 6:35 PM, with Rainy Lara (5-3, 3.58 ERA)
looking to lead the B-Mets to the best record in the EL.
After
T.J. Rivera reached on a one out walk in the 2nd inning, Vince
Belnome singled him to 3B, and Joe Benson brought him home with a sac fly.
Xorge Carrillo would follow with an RBI single to tie the game at 2.
Similarly,
in the 3rd inning, L.J. Mazzilli reached on a one out walk, went to
3B on a double from Josh Rodriguez, and then scored on a sac fly from Brock
Peterson.
Mazzilli
would again reach on a walk and score in the 5th inning, this time
coming around on an RBI single from Rivera after L.J. stole 2B.
L.J.
sparked the big 7th inning rally with a leadoff single to LF, and
he’d come around to score on J Rod’s second double of the game. After a pair of
walks loaded the bases with two outs for Carrillo, he knocked a ground-rule
double into the RF corner, which made it a 7-2 game. Jared King capped the
scoring with a two run single to LF.
Bonus Defense
There
were several grounders hit to Gavin Cecchini, but few really tested him, and he
made good throws on all of them – this play is from the 3rd inning.
