Recap
A
pair of Las Vegas errors in the 6th inning opened the door for 3 El
Paso runs, which would be just enough to beat a loaded 51s lineup Friday night.
Matt Bowman was tossing one of his better starts of the year before the 6th
inning started, but he’d have to settle for a tough-luck loss behind a
lackluster offensive performance. The starting lineup for Las Vegas had 4
players who have spent significant time with the Mets this year, got a
pinch-hit double from a 5th, and included two of the teams top
prospects, yet managed only 2 runs in the El Paso finale. Dario Alvarez would
bail Reynolds out of the 6th inning, and then John Church and Vic
Black held El Paso scoreless for the final two frames, but the Las Vegas come
back came up a few feet short in the 9th (see below for the scoring
highlights).
Las
Vegas returns home to begin a series against Iowa Saturday night at 10:05 PM,
with Dillon Gee (6-2, 5.59 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the 51s.
Matt
Bowman reached on a walk to lead off the 5th inning, but he’d be
doubled off at 1B when Dilson Herrera lined out to 3B. Darrell Ceciliani
followed with a homerun to RF.
The
first 5 El Paso batters would reach in the 6th inning, scoring all 3
of their runs on 3 singles and 2 Las Vegas errors: Cody Decker led off with a
single to CF, Jason Hagerty reached on Matt Reynolds 10th error of
the season, Rymer Lirano hit an RBI single to CF (Decker scored), Hector Gomez
reached on a throwing error from Bowman (Hagerty and Liriano scored), and then
Rocky Gale single to CF.
Brandon
Nimmo led off the 9th inning with a triple to RF, and he’d come
around to score on an RBI groundout from Kevin Plawecki. Down to their last
out, Danny Muno launched one to RF that looked like it might go out, but the
tall walls held it in the park for a double, and Dilson couldn’t bring him
home.
Dilson
did pick up two hits and Plaw a hit of his own during the game.
Defense Highlights
Matt
Reynolds did a little dance on his way to starting a double play in the 2nd
inning, and made a nice play on a groundball deflected by Bowman, but then made
a key error in the 6th inning.
