Recap

Apparently the B-Mets bats just needed some home cooking, because after a quiet weekend in New Hampshire, they exploded for 10 runs in their opener with Erie Monday night. Gavin Cecchini was still day-to-day with a sore groin (originally reported as a hip problem) for the B-Mets, but T.J. Rivera did a great job filling in at SS for him. He’d have a perfect day at the plate, including 2 RBI hit’s and a double. Brock Peterson also had a big day at the plate, which is good to see considering his recent struggles – collectively, Rivera and Brock combined for more than half of the teams’ hits. Binghamton starter Rainy Lara allowed a base runner in all 6 innings that he pitched, but he would only allow a run on a solo blast from Jason Krizan in the 4th. Beck Wheeler, Erik Goeddel, and Jeff Walters each worked a scoreless inning of relief after Lara to hold the lead. It was the first time that he’s worked on back-to-back days during his rehab, which is something the Mets often require of their relievers before they will recall them, so he is getting close.
This series continues Wednesday, with Kevin McGowan (AA debut) and Adam Kolarek (2-1, 3.88 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Binghamton during a double-header that starts at 5:35 PM.

Scoring Highlights

Vince Belnome sparked the first B-Mets rally with a leadoff single to LF in the 2nd inning. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Binghamton traded a pair of outs for one run, so it looked like they might waste a great opportunity. But then Gilbert Gomez successfully stole 2B, and L.J. Mazzilli singled home two for a 3-0 lead. The B-Mets would get one more run thanks to an RBI double from T.J. Rivera.

In the 4th, Jason Krizan hit a solo homerun to right-center, which got the Sea Wolves on the board.

Brock Peterson doubled Rivera home with two outs in the 5th to increase the B-Mets lead back to 4 runs.

Binghamton had another 4-run inning in the 6th, scoring the runs in a way similar to their 2nd inning rally. Jonathan Galvez and Xorge Carrillo led off with singles, but 3 batters later the bases were loaded with 2 outs and 0 runs in. Rivera singled home one run by reaching on an infield single to the Erie SS, and then Benson doubled home a pair, which knocked out Erie starter Tommy Collier. RP Calvin Drummond would allow an inherited runner to score on an RBI single from Brock, and then issued a walk to load the bases, but then induced an groundout to SS to end the frame.

Two walks and a single from Brock loaded the bases for Binghamton again with one out in the 8th, but this time they’d settle for just one run on an RBI single from Galvez.
