Recap

After taking the first game of this Saturday night double-header 3-0, the B-Mets lost the nightcap by that very score. B-Mets starter Mickey Jannis was making his AA debut, and he had a mixed start. The two walks he allowed in the 2nd inning led to the first run of the game for New Hampshire before they had a hit, and then he allowed 2 extra base hits for 2 more Cats runs in the 4th. He worked extremely fast, mostly featuring his fluttering knuckleball, which led to several big swings-and-misses when he was in the zone. They never used a CF camera angle with Jannis on the mound, but hopefully Jannis will stick around long enough to pitch in a park that utilizes that all game – it was still fun to watch a knuckleballer work. The B-Mets bats were quiet all night, and they failed to score in any of the final 13 frames of the double-header (out of 14). Cats starter Luis Perez allowed 0 hits over his 5 innings, but was fortunately removed after just 53 pitches. The B-Mets didn’t fare much better against his replacement, Blake McFarland, but at least they got a hit from T.J. Rivera. The Cats connected for a pair of singles off of Jannis in the 6th inning, so Pedro Lopez went to Jon Velasquez with one out in the frame, and he’d need just one pitch to induce an inning ending double play.
Check out some highlights from this game below, although there weren’t many from this game (especially with the camera angle used for the New Hampshire games). This series wraps up Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM, with Matt Koch (4-7, 3.55 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.

Scoring Highlights

The Fisher Cats took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning without the help of a hit. Mickey Jannis walked Ryan Schimpf and K.C. Hobson to start the frame, and then Derrick Chung brought home the first run with a sac fly two batters later.

Schimpf hit a one out solo blast in the 4th inning to double the Cats lead. Kevin Nolan would hit a double to LF two batters later and then Chung knocked him in for his second RBI of the game.

The B-Mets only hit came from T.J. Rivera in the 6th inning.

Defensive Highlights

L.J. Mazzilli did a nice job going to his right, spinning, and making an accurate throw to 2B to get the middle runner for the first out in the 2nd inning. You can’t really see the diving stop he made in the 4th inning, but the Fisher Cats announcers were impressed that he even got to the ball.
