Recap

The Binghamton Mets offense continued to sputter in New Britain Saturday night, and they fell 3-1 to the Rock Cats for a second straight loss. B-Mets starter Matt Koch provided a strong performance over his 5.2 IP, but only a scoreless effort would’ve netted him the win on this night, as the offense managed just a run on 5 hits. Gavin Cecchini started the game with a double for Binghamton, but the Mets couldn’t even get him to 3B, and they’d only get a runner that far in the 6th inning. New Britain would take advantage of an error from L.J. Mazzilli (his 10th) in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring on a grounder that took an advantageous deflection off of Koch. The Cats would scratch out a pair of runs against Koch in the 4th, and then their pitching did the rest of the heavy lifting.
Check out the GIF highlights below. This series wraps up Sunday afternoon at 1 PM, with Tyler Pill scheduled to pitch for Binghamton.

Scoring Highlights

Gavin Cecchini led off the game with his 25th double of the year, but the B-Mets couldn’t even advance him past 2B.

The Rock Cats took advantage of an L.J. Mazzilli fielding error for the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. With two outs and Pat Valaika on 1B from the error, Ryan Casteel started his big night with a single to RF, which advanced Valaika to 3B. Jordan Patterson would follow with an RBI single into RF on a grounder that deflected off of Matthew Koch.

Gavin Cecchini picked up his second hit of the game with one out in the 3rd inning, but again he’d advance no further than 2B.

Koch allowed a leadoff walk to Jan Vazquez in the 4th inning, and then uncorked a wild pitch that would allow him to advance to 2B with nobody out. Joey Wong followed with an RBI single on a groundball into RF, and then Wong came around to score on an RBI single from David Dahl, which was also on a groundball into RF.

The B-Mets finally got on the scoreboard in the 6th inning, when Vince Belnome singled home Joe Benson after Benson and Brock Peterson had been issued walks. Binghamton would load the bases with one out in the frame, and L.J. Mazzilli even got a second chance after a dropped foul pop error by the New Britain catcher, but he eventually flied out to RF, and then Albert Cordero hit an inning ending groundout back to the pitcher.

Defense Highlights

Gavin Cecchini does a nice job on this grounder to his left.
