Recap
The
Sand Gnats got a great start from Ricky Knapp in the last game Savannah will
play at State Mutual Park, and then held off the Braves come back attempts to
finish off the sweep. Knapp was very efficient Wednesday afternoon, needing
less than 80 pitches for his 7 innings, although the Braves finally started getting
to him in the 7th inning. The Mets top defensive shortstop prospect,
Luis Guillorme, led the way on offense in this start, starting each rally with
a hit, and coming around to score 3 of the teams 4 runs – see below for full
scoring highlights. He would add his 8th double of the year leading
off the 10th, smacking the ball over the left fielder’s head, where
it one-hopped the wall – that was great to see from Luis. J.C. Rodriguez was
responsible for bringing Luis home in both the 4th and 10th
innings, and he’s now 12-26 during a 7-game hitting streak. After Luis Mateo
worked a scoreless 8th inning, he found himself in trouble during
the 9th, and Cameron Griffin couldn’t escape the jam without
allowing the tying run to score. Griffin bounced back to force extras, and the
Sand Gnats would work quick to scratch out a run and finish this game in the 10th.
The
Sand Gnats continue their week of MiLB.tv action in Charleston, with 4 games
scheduled against the ‘rival’ River Dogs. Casey Delgado (5-3, 3.48 ERA) is
scheduled to pitch for Savannah in the opener.
Luis
Guillorme led off the 4th inning with a nice bunt single, and then
went to 3B on a double from Wuilmer Becerra. They’d both come home on a two run
double from J.C. Rodriguez two batters later.
Guillorme
sparked the 8th inning run with another leadoff single, and then
eventually came around to score on a single into RF from Michael Katz.
Guillorme
started extras with a double to LF, and J.C. Rodriguez would bring him home for
the go-ahead run three batters later.
Katz was credited with two doubles in this game, although he really only hit one.

Bonus Defense
The
Sand Gnats turned a nice 4-6-3 double play behind Ricky Knapp in the 1st
inning. Luis Guillorme ranging to his left to intercept a grounder with the
winning run on 2B in the 9th.
