Recap
The
51s got back to their winning ways Tuesday night in New Orleans, which put
another game between Las Vegas and El Paso in the Pacific Southern division of
the PCL – they now have a 2.5 game lead. It was vintage Dillon Gee on the mound
for Las Vegas Tuesday night, as he had his best changeup working, which led to
a lot of weak contact pulled to his middle infielders. On offense, Eric
Campbell had a huge game, but Las Vegas could only score during one of the four
frames that he had a hit in, and they needed the help of a two-error play in
the 3rd to do so. Brandon Allen and then Darrell Ceciliani would add
solo blasts in the 4th and 5th innings, respectively, for
some insurance runs, with both of them hitting a homerun off of a lefty
reliever. Zack Thornton and John Church each worked an inning of scoreless
relief after Gee to hold onto the 7th shutout of the season for Las
Vegas.
This
series wraps up Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, with Darin Gorski (9-8, 5.17 ERA)
scheduled to pitch opposite Rob Morey (2-6, 3.89 ERA).
Dilson
Herrera and Eric Campbell each singled in the 1st inning, but Dilson
was caught stealing 3B shortly before Campbell picked up his first hit of the
game.
Johnny
Monell led off the 2nd with a double pulled down the RF line.
A
two out walk to Darrell Ceciliani kept the inning alive, and then he’d score
when the Zephyrs made two throwing errors on infield single from Campbell.
Brandon
Allen led off the 4th inning with his 16th blast of the
year.
Ceciliani
hit a one out homerun to right center field in the 5th. He has 9
homeruns with Las Vegas + 1 with the Mets in 2015, which bests his previous
high of 7 for a season.
Jayce
Boyd doubled Matt Reynolds to 3B with two outs in the 6th, and then
Dillon Gee drew a walk to load the bases, but Dilson would fly out to end the
threat. Boyd would add a single in the 8th, and then Campbell added
a double in the 9th, but neither hit amounted to more than a runner
at 2B.
Defensive Highlights
Pitcher’s
should be forced to watch Dillon Gee field this bunt back to the mound before
Spring Training PFP, because he does it perfectly.
Matt
Reynolds making a routine play in the 5th, and a less routine play
in the 6th.
