Recap
Ryan
Carpenter stifled the Binghamton Mets over 8 brilliant innings, setting a
career high with 11 strikeouts, and making only one big mistake all night. The
mistake put the B-Mets on the board, as T.J. Rivera punished it for a solo
blast off the scoreboard, but the Rock Cats would tag Gabriel Ynoa for 5 runs
over his 5 IP. It snapped a streak of 10 straight starts with 3 ER or less for
Ynoa, who had a 2.02 ERA and .538 OPS allowed over 71.1 IP during that stretch.
Mike Tauchman led the way on offense for New Britain, finishing a homerun shy
of the cycle, and starting 2 two out rallies against Ynoa. The Rock Cats also
got a boost from mid-season call up Jordan Patterson (23), who hit his fourth
homerun in 90 AB since his promotion to AA after 10 in the California league.
After striking out 11 times over the first 8 innings against Carpenter, the B-Mets
would go down in order on 3 straight strikeouts against Carlos Estevez in the 9th.
This
series continues Saturday evening at 7:05 PM, with Matthew Koch (4-6, 3.58 ERA)
scheduled to start for Binghamton.
Scoring Highlights
Mike
Tauchman’s big day started with a two out double in the 1st, and
he’d steal 3B before Ryan Casteel singled him home.
The
Rock Cats doubled their lead when Tauchman singled home Noel Cuevas in the 3rd
– Cuevas had reached on a one out double to LF.
T.J.
Rivera launched a solo homerun with one out in the 4th inning for
the B-Mets only hit.
In
the 5th inning, New Britain jumped ahead 5-1 when five straight Rock
Cats combined for the cycle + a walk, and it started with another two out extra
base hit from Tauchman – Casteel singled him home again, Patterson launched his
fourth bomb of the year, Valaika followed with a double to RF, and then Joey
Wong walked.
Defense Highlights
Xorge
Carrillo made another strong play on this tough chopper in the 2nd
inning.
Gavin
Cecchini made a nice play ranging to his left for the third out in the 5th.
