Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s dropped a third straight game in Sacramento Wednesday night as
they took a 6-1 loss to the River Cats. It was the second straight night that
the 51s managed just one run, and this time they managed just four hits against
a quartet of River Cats pitchers. Recently promoted John Mora had half of those
four Las Vegas hits, and they both went for doubles. The game was over by the
time they entered, but Tom Gorzelanny, Neil Wagner, and Alberto Baldonado each
contributed a scoreless inning of work to keep this a five-run game.
The
River Cats went to work on Jonathan Albaladejo from the get go, with two runs
in the 1st and another run in the 3rd. The 1st
inning rally didn’t start until there were two outs in the frame, but four
singles later, the River Cats were up for good.
463 double play |
John
Mora doubled for the 51s first hit of the game leading off the 3rd.
Las Vegas got him home with a sac bunt and a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-1.
Albaladejo
responded with a clean 3rd, but then the River Cats were right back
at it with two more runs in the 4th.
Mora
connected on his second double of the game in the 5th, but it came
with two outs and the 51s couldn’t get him home.
Ben
Rowen took over in the 5th and couldn’t get through the frame. The
only run he allowed came on a leadoff homer from Mac Williamson, but Rowen had
to be relieved with two outs and the bases loaded.
Gorzelanny
closed out the 5th and then struck out both batters he faced in the
6th. Beck Wheeler finished off the 6th for Gorzy and
struck out Williamson, so the two combined to strikeout the side in the frame.
The
final two 51s hits were singles late in the game: Victor Cruzado connected on
one in the 7th and then Phil Evans reached second after his with two
outs in the 8th.
Between
Rowen, Gorzy, Wheeler, Wagner, and Baldonado, the 51s pen combined to retired
the final 12 River Cats batters in a row. Wagner worked a perfect 7th
with no strikeouts and then Baldonado struck out Jae-Gyun Hwang in the 8th.
Looking
ahead, Thursday’s finale is the 51s final 2017 appearance with a watchable
MiLB.tv feed and the 51s are expected to get a start from Robert Gsellman.
