Recapish
The
Binghamton Rumble Ponies were shutout by the Akron Wednesday night as the Ducks
completed a three-game sweep at NYSEG with a 4-0 win. The Ponies were forced to
rely on ‘Johnny Wholestaff’ to pitch the game after their originally scheduled
starter was sent to the PCL for a start with the 51s on Tuesday. Four Ponies
relievers combined to give Binghamton a chance, but the Ponies offense couldn’t
get anything going against Ducks starter Aaron Civale and three Ducks relievers.
Lefty
Daniel Zamora officially got the start for Binghamton and came out strong,
striking out three of the first four batters he faced. Unfortunately, the 2nd
inning was all downhill for Zamora after that. He allowed two singles, a walk,
a double, and an RBI triple as the Ducks jumped ahead 4-0 for good.
The
Ponies got two of their first three hits in the 2nd and then their third
single in the 3rd, but none of it led to any runs scored. Jhoan
Urena and Tim Tebow singled in the 2nd, and Andrew Ely added his in
the 3rd.
Pretty
much nothing happened after the Ducks half of the 2nd, as the
pitching took over this game. Drew Smith faced the minimum over three hitless
innings, finishing with three strikeouts.
Tyler
Bashlor worked two perfect frames and struck out a pair.
Adonis
Uceta had to deal with a few base runners over his two innings of work, but he
kept Akron off the board and fininshed with three strikeouts of his own.
Looking
ahead, the Ponies have an off-day Thursday as they travel to Portland for a
weekend series with the Sea Dogs. Andrew Church (0-0, 4.15 ERA) is scheduled to
make his second start of the year in the opener Friday night, with first pitch
scheduled for 6:00 PM.
