Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s took a lopsided 9-1 loss to Tacoma Friday night, which evened the
series up at one game apiece. Rafael Montero struggled for most of the start,
and would be charged with 7 runs before leaving in the 6th inning.
Recently promoted Beck Wheeler made his PCL debut and struck out 3 in a row in
dominating fashion. At the plate, they wasted several opportunities to get runs
home, and even their one run scored came on a double play grounder with the
bases loaded.
Montero
allowed the first three to reach in the 1st inning and found himself
down 2-0 before an out was recorded. He faced the minimum in the 2nd
and 4th innings, but threw 20+ pitches in the 1st, 3rd
and 5th innings. He’ll show flashes of the top prospect he was, but
this is not the same guy who made it to Triple-A as a 22-year old in 2013. If
the 51s had more starters available to them, Montero would probably already be
in the pen, which is looking like his best option right now.
Gavin Cecchini and Travis Taijeron
stayed hot with two hits apiece, combining for one more hit than the rest of
their teammates combined. They also combined for three doubles, though neither
scored in the game. Check out those doubles and how Las Vegas did score with
highlights in the next section. I have also included some defensive highlights
and the strikeout pitches further down the page, so enjoy! This series
continues Saturday night at 10:05 PM, with Sean Gilmartin (8-3, 4.48 ERA)
scheduled to start now that he’s back with Las Vegas (again).
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Gavin
Cecchini picked up his 16th double of the season in the 1st
inning, but the 51s stranded him at 2B. He added a bloop single in his next at
bat.
Travis
Taijeron picked up his first double of the night in the 7th and went
to 3B on Kevin Plawecki’s hit. Taijeron added another double later in the game.
Cecchini
walked and everntually came around to score the 51s only run in the 8th.
Conforto singled him to 3B, and then a T.J. Rivera walk loaded the bases for
Eric Campbell. Unfortunately the waiter brought the MLB Soup, when the 51s
needed the PCL Soup, and he grounded into a double play – Cecchini scored the
51s only run on the play.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Some
Gavin Cecchini highlights, and then T.J. Rivera starting a 5-3 double play.
