Recapish

The Brooklyn Cyclones rode some great pitching and the right side of their infield to an easy 6-1 win in game two of their series with Aberdeen Tuesday night. Regular starter Erik Manoah allowed a 1st inning run but then nothing over his final 5 frames of work, and then piggyback starter Raul Jacobson allowed just one hit over the final 3 innings.
After trailing for most of Monday’s game, Brooklyn was quick to jump ahead with a 1st inning run Tuesday. Pistol Pete Alonso doubled home Nick Sergakis to give Manoah a lead before he took the mound. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, Monoah couldn’t hold that lead for very long, and the Iron Birds nearly jumped ahead in the bottom half of the 1st. Jaylen Ferguson doubled home the tying run with two outs in the 1st, but Alejandro Juvier was thrown out trying to score from first base on the play.
Manoah really settled in after that 1st inning bump, allowing just three baserunners over his final 5 frames, with two of those runners erased on the base paths. Aberdeen’s starter Keegan Akin was making his pro debut, so he bowed out after just two innings and Parker Bridwell took over. His outing started nicely for the Iron Birds before Brooklyn broke through in a big way against Bridwell in the 5th. With two on and two outs in the frame, Nick Sergakis launched his second home of the season to LF, which gave the Cyclones a 4-1 lead.
Manoah retired his final 6 batters faced in a row after Brooklyn took the lead, and then Raul Jacobson started his outing with 4 straight set down, including 3 on strikeouts. By the time Aberdeen got another runner on base the Cyclones had extended their lead to 6-1 with an 8th inning rally.
I break down the Cyclones scoring and defensive highlights below, so enjoy!

Nick Sergakis started his big night with a one out single in the 1st and then scored on Peter Alonso’s third double of the season.

Dan Rizzie picked up his hit in the 2nd.

With two outs in the 5th, Darryl Knight was hit by a pitch to extend the frame for Brooklyn. Gene Cone followed with his first hit of the game and then they both scored on Sergakis’ blast to LF.

Sergakis was at it again in the 8th, sparking a Cyclones rally with a leadoff single. Alonso moved him to 3B when he singled two batters later and then Jacob Zanon doubled him home to make it a 5-1 game. Blake Tiberi’s sac fly capped the scoring for Brooklyn.
