Recapish

The Fireflies dropped their third straight to Delmarva Thursday night, taking a sweep after falling behind big early in all 3 games. Joe Shaw was knocked around for 5 runs (4 ER) in the 1st inning, and it looked like another long night for the Fireflies pen, but Shaw worked into the 7th, keeping Delmarva from scoring again until after he left. Columbia then tied the game in the bottom of the 7th, but recently demoted Jimmy Duff was quick to give that lead back in the 8th, and the Shorebirds pen swept things up after that.
Cedric Mullins greeted Shaw with a solo blast to get the game started and give Delmarva a 1-0 lead before an out was recorded. Then the Fireflies got a little sloppy, allowing Yermin Mercedes to reach on an E5, and then come around to score on a pair of wild pitches from Shaw. Delmarva scored their final three runs of the 1st with two outs in the frame, which proved huge later in the game.

Columbia charged back to make this a one run game with 4 in the 2nd. Shorebirds starter Ofelky Peralta is just 19 and prone to losing control, which really benefited the Fireflies in the frame. Columbia worked three straight walks, including one with the bases loaded, and then J.C. Rodriguez provided the big hit with a two run single.
J.C. provided the next big hit for the Fireflies too, launching a solo blast to RF to tie the game in the 7th, but unfortunately that was the last big hit for Columbia. Delmarva rallied for two against Duff in the 8th and then added an insurance run against him in the 9th. The Fireflies managed just one hit over the final two frames, and quickly went down 1-2-3 against Christian Turnipseed in the 9th.
I break down the Fireflies scoring, defense, and pitching highlights below, so enjoy!

MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights

Brandon Brosher led off the 2nd inning with a single into CF. After a force out, a pair of walks loaded the bases for Enmanuel Zabala, and then he worked out a walk to get Columbia on the board. J. C. made it 5-3 with a two run single into LF and Tucker Tharp cut the lead to one with a sac fly later in the frame.

Brosher added his second hit of the game in the 3rd.

J.C. hit his 5th homer of the season in the 7th inning.

Enmanuel Zabala picked up his hit in the fourth.

MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights

A pair of double plays turned by the Fireflies and Brandon Brosher throwing a runner out at 2B.
