Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets twice battled back against the Hartford Yard Goats to take the
series opener in Binghamton by a final of 7-5 Thursday night. B-Mets starter
Tyler Herron was smacked around for 11 hits during his 5+ innings of work, but
he limited the Yard Goats to just 5 runs, and his teammates in the pen kept
Hartford scoreless over the final 3+ frames. This allowed the B-Mets to charge
ahead for good when Phillip Evans powered a four run 7th inning
rally with his fourth bomb of the season.
B-Mets
starter Tyler Herron has struggled since joining the roster and it was two out
trouble that burned him in this one. He retired the first two batters of the 1st
inning before Dillon Thomas singled and Noel Cuevas launched his second homer
of the season to make it 2-0 Yard Goats on top. Herron retired the first two
batters of the 3rd inning before Hartford strung together three
straight singles. An outfield assist from Kyle Johnson to throw Thomas out at
home was the only thing that kept Hartford from scoring in the frame. Herron
again retired the first two batters in a frame during the 5th, and
this time Hartford rallied for one run off Ryan McMahon’s RBI double.
Despite
Herron’s struggles with two outs Thursday night, he left down just 5-3, which
was close enough for the B-Mets offense on this night. Binghamton rallied for
four runs in the 7th inning, with the Evans three run bomb turning
this game upside down in an instant. Binghamton Manager Pedro Lopez turned to a
pair of lefties for the final two frames, and Alberto Baldonado and David
Roseboom combined to hold onto the 7-5 lead.
I
break down the B-Mets scoring and defensive highlights below, so enjoy!
