Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets started their second straight double-header with a big win in
game one for the second straight day. Ricky Knapp shined in his Double-A debut,
but Dominic Smith and Matt Oberste’s stole the show when they went back-to-back
in the 1st inning, and then again in the 3rd.
Knapp
started 2015 in St. Lucie’s pen bug was demoted to the Savannah rotation when
he struggled out of the gate. He would become one of the most reliable starters
in the Sand Gnats rotation last year, and that success has continued into 2016.
He was one of the most effective starters in the FSL during the first half, so
whether this is a spot start or permanent move, Knapp has earned his spot with
Binghamton.
The
B-Mets made things easy for Knapp by building a huge lead early. The Smith and
Oberste homers combined for 6 runs, and the second pair came after Knapp
struggled in the 3rd.
New
Hampshire managed 7 baserunners against Knapp, with 5 of them reaching during a
long 3rd. Knapp issued two walks in the frame, and Rowdy Tellez came
through with a two out single to make it a 3-2 game. Fortunately for the
B-Mets, Knapp buckled down in the frame to strand the bases loaded.
After
the 3rd, Knapp would retire 13 of the final 14 Fisher Cats of the
game while the B-Mets extended the lead to 9-2. I break down all of the scoring
details with highlights below, so enjoy! These two would play one more Saturday
night, with Tyler Herron schedule to make his organizational debut.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Amed
Rosario worked a two out walk to keep the 1st inning alive and then
Dominic Smith and Matt Oberste went back-to-back for the first time.
Jose
Reyes walked leading off the 3rd inning, and then Smith and Oberste
went back-to-back for a second time.
Rosario
and Smith started the 5th with consecutive singles, with Rosario
going to third base on Smith’s hit. They both came home on sac flies, first
Oberste and then Stefan Sabol.
Jose
Reyes led off the 6th with a double and would come around to score
on Smith’s fourth hit of the game.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Jose Reyes and Amed Rosario were manning the left side of the infield, and it was a brick wall over there!
