Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets won their second straight over Hartford Friday night, walking
off with a win in the 13th on the same night Rafael Montero made his
return to Binghamton. Montero’s return comes after he struggled so much with
Las Vegas that the Mets demoted him. The B-Mets pen combined for 7 innings of
scoreless relief after taking over for Montero in the 7th.
Montero
last pitched for Binghamton in 2013, when he was a rising star in the system,
so this is quite a fall for a pitcher who is still on the 40-man roster. The
Mets are hoping he can regain his form away from the hellish scoring
environment of the PCL, and he appeared to take a step in the right direction
with this start. He did issue two walks and got away with some stuff left up
that might’ve been crushed in the PCL, but he was more effective than he had
been in months.
The
B-Mets jumped ahead with a run in the 1st but Hartford was quick to
tie it with a run of their own in the 2nd. The Yard Goats jumped
ahead 2-1 with an unearned run in the 4th, and Binghamton got that run
back in the 6th, which took Montero off the hook.
Rainy Lara was the first in to
relieve Montero and he worked a scoreless inning in his first relief appearance
of the year. Luis Mateo, David Roseboom, and Logan Taylor followed with two
scoreless innings each, which gave the B-Mets plenty of chances to win, but
they couldn’t break through against Hartford’s pen either – well, not until the
13th. Maikis De La Cruz came up as a pinch hitter with the bases
loaded and one out in the 13th and he lined a game winning RBI
single into CF to give Binghamton a walkoff win.
I break down the B-Mets scoring and
defense highlights below, so enjoy!
