Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s started their road trip on a high note Thursday night in Tacoma,
taking the opener of their series with the Rainier 7-3 thanks to some big
flies. Two 51s recently demoted from the Mets made the biggest impact, as both
Michael Conforto and Kevin Plawecki went deep with men on base for Las Vegas.
Starter Darin Gorski was much more effective in his second start with the team,
cruising through most of his 7 innings.
Gorski
allowed a leadoff double to Norichika Aoki in the 1st inning, and he
came around to score and give Tacoma an early 1-0 lead. Gorski then retired the
next 11 Tacoma batters in a row as his teammates built up a 5-1 lead. The
Rainiers put together one more scoring threat against him in the 7th
when the first two reached, but then Gavin Cecchini started a key double play
to help bail him out of the threat.
This
51s lineup featured 4 who have played for the Mets in 2016, so of course they
were reliant on the homer to score. Check out the homer highlights and how they
scored their other runs below! This series continues Friday night at 10:05 PM,
with Rafael Montero (4-4, 6.13 ERA) scheduled to start for Las Vegas.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Kevin
Plawecki led off the 3rd inning with a single, although he’d be
replaced on the base paths by a fielder’s choice during the frame. The
baserunner upgrade benefitted Las Vegas, as Ty Kelly stole 2B and scored on
Gavin Cecchini’s 15th double of the season. Michael Conforto then
launched his first ever Triple-A homer to make it a 3-0 game.
Eric
Campbell led off the 4th inning with a single and came home on Kevin
Plawecki’s first Triple-A homer of the season.
Johnny
Monell led off the 6th inning with his 12th homer of the
season.
Ty
Kelly doubled home Roger Bernadina (walk) in the 9th.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Michael Conforto made a nice jumping catch on a fly ball hit to the warning track in the 1st.
Gavin Cecchini starting a double play in the seventh.
