Recapish
The
Fireflies started their homestand with a loss to Delmarva Tuesday night, as
they were unable to overcome an early deficit left by starter Bryce Beeler.
Beeler was removed after just 48 pitches and has since been placed on the DL, so
stay tuned for updates. The early departure left too much work for Columbia’s
pen, and Delmarva was able to pull away with a couple of late rallies against
them.
After
falling behind by three early, Columbia had big opportunities to chip away at
the lead in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. The first two
Fireflies reached in both frames, but Columbia failed to score in either
opportunity, and then didn’t get another good chance to score until they broke
through in the 7th. Columbia pulled to within 5-3 in the 8th,
but Natanael Delgado launched a long two run homer for Delmarva in the 9th
for the final blow of the game.
I
break down the scoring, defense, and pitching highlights below, so enjoy!
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Kevin
Kaczmarski picked up his hit with two outs in the 1st.
Vicente
Lupo’s first hit came with Eudor Garcia on first base and nobody out in the 2nd
inning, but the Fireflies couldn’t capitalize for a run in the frame.
Milton
Ramos and Tyler Moore reached on singles leading off the 3rd inning,
but again the Fireflies failed to score despite the big opportunity.
Milton’s
second hit of the game came in the 5th.
Lupo
led off the 7th by reaching on an infield single. He went to 3B on
Dash Winningham’s hit and then scored on a double play.
Dale
Burdick cut the lead in half when he launched a two run homer to LF in the 8th
inning after Moore picked up his second hit of the game.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Couple of double plays turned by Columbia and Eudor Garcia at third base in the ninth.
