Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies started their weekend series with the Rome Braves by taking a 3-0 loss Friday night. For Columbia, this was just a continuation of their series with Delmarva: fall behind early and then struggle to get any offense going. Just like Joe Shaw on Thursday night, Chase Ingram allowed a big 1st inning before settling in to provide some quality innings through the end of his night.
Ingram has been going through some ups-and-downs lately and that clearly continued in this one. His first pitch was a breaking ball that didn’t break but sailed into Ray-Patrick Didder’s back. The next four Rome batters reached on three singles and a walk, which had Ingram down 2-0 before an out was recorded. He allowed a third run to come home on a wild pitch before something clicked and he went into beast mode. He would allow just 3 baserunners after that wild pitch, starting his turnaround with a strikeout of Lucas Herbert.

After Rome jumped ahead 3-0 in the 1st, neither team did anything of interest on offense. Columbia’s first four hits came with two outs, and they managed 0 extra base hits. Craig Missigman was very strong over his 2 innings of relief and Tyler Bashlor worked a scoreless 9th, but you can’t win without scoring runs.
I break down the scoring, defense, and pitching highlights below, so enjoy!

MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights

Dash Winningham’s first hit came with two outs in the 2nd inning.

J.C. Rodriguez picked up a two out single in the 3rd.

Tucker Tharp added his hit with two outs in the 6th.

Winninham’s second hit came with two outs in the 7th.

Luis Ortega led off the 8th with a single.

MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights

The Fireflies went to the pitchout at the right time and Brandon Brosher came through with a good enough throw.
