Recapish
After
taking a 10-4 win over New Hampshire in game one, the Binghamton Mets fell
behind big in the 1st and could not overcome the deficit. Rehabbing
Mets reliever Jim Henderson made the start for Binghamton and was responsible
for most of the 1st inning damage, but he was pitching during the
one 15-minute window of rain throughout the evening of baseball, and it got
pretty bad while he was out there.
Henderson
got a pop out from the first batter of the game, which is when the drizzle
first started. He lost Roemon Fields to a walk, and then Fields stole a pair of
bases as the rain intensified. Jason Leblebijian followed with an RBI double to
CF, which was the only run charged to Henderson while he was on the mound.
Henderson then issued a second walk before getting a fly out for out #2. At
that point, he had reached his pitch limit for the game and would be removed
for Domingo Tapia. At one point during the inning, the rain got so bad that the
grounds crew came out to put fresh, dry dirt where he lands.
Domingo Tapia took over for Henderson in the 1st and had a rude welcoming back to Double-A. Jorge Saez nearly took Tapia way deep to start his AB, but the ball was yanked just foul. Did not matter however, as he hit a later pitch over the LF wall to give New Hampshire a 4-0 lead.
The
B-Mets didn’t lack for offense during the game, but New Hampshire took
advantage of some wild pitching from Logan Taylor in the 5th for a
6-run frame. I break down the B-Mets scoring with highlights below, and then
include some defensive highlights at the bottom, so enjoy! This series
continues with another double-header (seriously, another double-header)
scheduled for Saturday. Neither Binghamton starter had been announced in the
game notes pre-game, but it’s likely recently signed Tyler Herron gets one of
the starts.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Jose
Reyes led off the 1st inning with a single into CF and came around
to score on Dominic Smith’s first RBI of the game.
L.J.
Mazzilli picked up his first of two hits leading off the 2nd inning.
Phillip
Evans lined a double over the center fielder’s head in the 3rd
inning.
Matt
Oberste and Derrik Gibson started the 5th with singles, and then
Phillip Evans knocked everyone in with his second homer of the season. Jayce
Boyd added a single in the frame.
Dominic
Smith turned on one and launched it off the NYSEG scoreboard in the 7th.
The cameras didn’t track it so well, but you can see the ball after it bounced
off the scoreboard at the very end of the clip. Mazzilli added his second hit
of the game later in the frame.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Phillip
Evans took over at shortstop in game two.
