Recapish
The
Cyclones brought their brooms with them to the park Wednesday and then swept up
the Iron Birds before heading back home. It was a familiar recipe for Brooklyn:
great pitching and a big performance from one or two guys to drive the offense.
This time Gabriel Llanes shouldered most of the load for the Cyclones pitchers,
while Peter Alonso and Jacob Zanon drove the offense with big flies and their
legs.
Brooklyn
jumped ahead 2-0 in the 1st when Alonso went deep for the first time
as a pro. Power is his game, and he made some loud contact during this series
against Aberdeen. That lead held up until the 3rd, when Aberdeen
managed their only rally of the game. Stuart Levy and Ronarsy Ledesma started
the frame with singles, but the Iron Birds had to trade an out for both of
their runs, which limited its length.
That
tie would not last long though, as Jacob Zanon led off the 4th with
a solo blast to LF. After Ali Sanchez doubled to RF, Jay Jabs gave Brooklyn
their two run advantage back with an RBI single into CF. Zanon and Alonso then
combined to steal the Cyclones a run in the 5th. Zanon worked a two
out walk, stole two bases, and then scored on an infield single.
Brooklyn
added another insurance run in the 7th, though the Cyclones pitching
hardly needed it. They held Aberdeen to just 8 runs over 29 innings during the
series, and 3 of those runs came in the 1st inning of game one.
I
break down the Cyclones scoring and defensive highlights below, so enjoy!
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Michael
Paez walked in his first pro plate appearance and then scored on Peter Alonso’s
first pro homer.
Blake
Tiberi reached on an infield single to start the 2nd inning.
Jacob
Zanon led off the 4th inning with his second homer of the season.
Ali Sanchez doubled two batters later and then came home on a Jay Jabs single
three batters after that.
Nick
Sergakis singled with one out in the 5th inning, but he’d be picked
off at 1B. Zanon then worked a walk before stealing both second and third base
– he’s up to 9 steals for Brooklyn already! Pistol Pete then beat out an
infield single to pick up the RBI hit and make this a 5-2 game.
Paez
picked up his first hit as a pro in the 7th and then came around to
score on Zanon’s third double of the season.
Darryl
Knight and Paez added 9th inning singles for Brooklyn.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Plays featuring Blake Tiberi at 3B, Michael Paez at SS, and Ali Sanchez behind the plate.
