Recapish
After
starting the season 30-0 when leading after five innings, the Binghamton Rumble
Ponies bullpen has blown two straight games against Bowie, dropping them to
third place in the division. Corey Oswalt made a successful return from the DL
for Binghamton, allowing just one run over six innings despite a limited pitch
count. Oswalt left with a 2-1 lead but Bowie quickly jumped ahead on the back
of two homers in the 7th. Champ Stuart hit two homers himself for
Binghamton, but that accounted for all of their offense in this one.
Oswalt
had to leave early during a start on June 8th when his hamstring
acted up during warmups before the 2nd, but his Manager said it
wasn’t a serious issue later that night, so it’s likely he was on the DL for
precautionary reasons – good to see the Mets take that kind of action with
their minor leaguers. Although he dealt with at least one base runner in every
inning except the 4th, he allowed just a run in the 2nd
and generally worked quickly and efficiently for six strong innings on merely
72 pitches.

Bowie
jumped ahead 1-0 in the 2nd, but then they committed an error in the
bottom half of the frame and Champ Stuart seized on the opportunity. He hit his
first of two two-run homerun’s in the game to put the Ponies up 2-1.
The
score stayed that way until the 7th, and the Ponies managed just one
his between the frames they scored in – a Kevin Taylor single leading off the 6th. Shown below is Matt Oberste’s single from the 1st inning.
Corey
Taylor took over for Oswalt in the 7th and was immediately greeted
with a homer off the bat of Adam Brett Walker. Taylor would allow another blast
four batters later, as Cedric Mullins connected for a three run shot to make
this a 5-2 game.
Binghamton
cut the lead to one when Champ hit his second homer of the game in the bottom
half of the 7th.
Unfortunately,
they managed just two singles – Oberste and David Thompson – over the final two
innings, and couldn’t get either runner home.
After
dropping the last two games of this series, the Rumble Ponies hit the road for
New Hampshire to start a weekend series with the Fisher Cats. Highly touted
Marcos Molina is scheduled to make his second Double-A start of the season for
Binghamton, with game time scheduled for 7:05 PM. Enjoy some highlights from the defense below.
