            Check out yesterday’s results here.

Skyler Kanfer of BP Mets shared notes on some of the other interesting Columbia Fireflies prospects he saw when they visited Hagerstown last week: Adonis Uceta, Matt Blackham, Gary Cornish, Michael Paez, Joseph Zanghi, and Max Kuhns.

The NYPost says fantasy owners will need to be wary of Amed Rosario when he comes up because he may not hit as much as he has in the high-offensive environment of the PCL – well duh, same could be said of any Triple-A player, but I get that not everyone grasps how extreme the PCL environment is.
They go on to compare Rosario coming up to top-prospect Dansby Swanson coming up last year, and point out that Swanson hasn’t really panned out for fantasy owners since he’s been more of a defense-first shortstop who hasn’t offered much offense:
“His on-base work was decent, but with regard to a power bat or game-breaking speed, Swanson was devoid of the qualities fantasy owners needed.” They later add, “Study the numbers and understand why a rookie is rated so high.”
Numbers are great for telling you what a prospect has done and can give you an idea of the type of player that prospect will become, but to understand why a prospect is rated so high, you’re better off reading scouting reports and watching as many highlights of that prospect as you can.
It’s interesting, Fangraphs new prospect guru Eric Longenhagen has Rosario and Swanson 3-4 in his 2017 rankings, so you can easily compare the reports. First, from what I’ve seen, I don’t see how Rosario isn’t closer to 70-grade speed. Other than that, the two have very similar grades, though Rosario is a half-grade better in the future value of his hit, raw power, and game power tools. But if you read the reports, the two players couldn’t sound more different.
On Rosario: “An exceptional athlete who has become more explosive and coordinated as his body has matured, Rosario projects as a plus defender at shortstop… his recent physical maturation has also aided his offensive output… [his raw power] was on par with all but the game’s best power-hitting prospects at the Futures Game…” (There was more, but it involved “ifs”.)
On Swanson: “A polished and underrated defender, Swanson’s contact/power profile is modest in a vacuum but is very favorable at shortstop. His plate discipline vaults his overall value skyward.” (That’s it)
One of those guys sounds like a potential fantasy monster, while the other sounds like a very nice player who can help his team a lot but doesn’t light up the fantasy boards. I haven’t played the fantasy game for a few seasons, so I’m not trying to give advice on the matter, but I wanted to make sure people understood why the Mets prospect was ranked so high…
“Study the numbers and understand why a rookie is rated so high. If you don’t, you will be shelling out free-agent bucks for mediocre fantasy talent and could end up missing out on someone who actually is the real deal.”

Yesterday, the Brooklyn Paper reported that, “The Mets organization has announced that Tim Tebow will remain with the Columbia Fireflies in the Class A South Atlantic League for the remainder of their season.” Then today, The State (which covers the Fireflies) said, “The Mets haven’t said what their plan for Tebow was for the rest of the year.” They also said a NY Post article, “cited an anonymous source who said Tebow would be promoted to Double-A Binghamton after the All-Star break, which will be June 19-20.”
The first report makes sense; the second one (promoting him to Double-A) would make no sense.
