Minor News
If you have any link
tips, suggest them to @Astromets31 on twitter and I’ll add them in.
Check
out yesterday’s results here.
I
didn’t recap any games during the 51s series in Reno, so I put together a series
box score.
I
also did a first-half stat review for the Columbia Fireflies here.
You can find a link to all 38 first-half recaps (plus the SAL All-Star Game) at
the bottom of the page. Michael Paez, Jordan Humphreys, and Merandy Gonzalez have been promoted to St. Lucie.
Betsy
Helfand says the 51s rotation is currently
just 3-men, so help is on the way. One source of help she wasn’t aware of
yet was coming
from the Independent League, as the Mets announced the signing of former
Major League pitcher Mitch Atkins yesterday, and he’s supposed to be reporting
to Triple-A.
Per
Lou Bezjak of The
State, Columbia will hold an ‘Eclipse Game’ on 8/21 against Rome. The game
is scheduled to start at 1:05 PM and they will pause it at 2:41 PM so fans can
marvel at it through their protective glasses (which will be provided). Sounds
awesome!

Post-game notes: Per the Cyclones radio, Johnson sits around 90 with his four seamer, threw a sinking two seamer, and mixed in a curveball and changeup. He had a streak of 10 straight set down at one point.
As for Campos, after just one season in the DSL, Campos skipped the GCL and Kingsport and made his debut for the Brooklyn Cyclones in Burlington, VT. Radio had him sitting low-to-mid-90’s with his fastball (heard several pitches called 94-95 early in his outing, and then they said he had been sitting mid-90's during the 8th), and said he flashed a nice breaking ball (low-to-mid 80's) and changeup (low-80's). He did allow some loud contact too, but he settled down after that.
-Johnson's first strikeout came on a 2-2 fastball (foul tip). "Blew it by him"
-His second strikeout came on a 2-2 sinking fastball, down and in (swinging).

-Campos' first strikeout came on a 1-2 "Fastball up above the letters at 94 MPH" (swinging).
-His second strikeout came on a 1-2 breaking ball on the outside corner (looking). "Good late action"
-His third strikeout came on a 0-2 breaking ball on the outside black (looking).
-His fourth strikeout came on a 0-2 breaking ball on the inside corner (looking).
-His fifth strikeout came on a 1-2 Fastball (looking). "Right on the outside corner"
-His sixth and final strikeout came on a 1-2 changeup down in the zone (swinging).

Post-game notes: If
you are trying to follow the Kingsport Mets this year, I strongly recommend you
follow and/or check out @kmetsfan’s timeline
after games. He shared the following from last night’s game:
I was very impressed. He let one pitch hang over the plate that got him but produced a lot of fly outs and ground balls. Good control.— Mark Davis (@kmetsfan) June 23, 2017
