Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies hit Trenton this week with a chance to gain some ground on the division leading Thunder, but they dropped the rubber match Thursday to fall three games out of first place. Bingo starter Blake Beavan struggled to keep runners off the bases all night, while the Ponies bats struggled to get anything going most of the night.
Luis Guillorme started the night with a double to center field, his eighth of the season, but was stranded at second base in the frame.

Beavan was in trouble from the start, allowing a leadoff triple to Thairo Estrada in the 1st as Trenton jumped ahead 2-0 in the frame. Mark Payton tagged up and went to second on an RBI sac fly from Mike Ford, which allowed him to score the second run of the inning on a two out single from Zack Zehner.
Billy Fleming led off the 2nd with a single for Trenton, but the Ponies turned a 5-4-3 double play in the frame to erase him on the bases.

David Thompson and Patrick Biondi connected for back-to-back singles leading off the 3rd, but again Bingo failed to even advance them during the inning.

Miguel Andujar made it 3-0 with a solo blast in the Thunder half of the 3rd.
After three scoreless innings from their starter Yefry Ramirez, Trenton brought in Nestor Cortes for the final six innings of the game. The Ponies were able to break through against Cortes in the 4th, but overall he turned in a nice outing for Trenton (6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 4 K: 1 BB).
Matt Oberste singled Kevin Taylor (walk) to third in the 4th inning, and then Taylor came home on a groundout to put the Ponies on the scoreboard.

The Rumble Ponies put together one last hoorah in the 6th, but it only tied things up for a few minutes. Tomas Nido sparked the rally with a leadoff single and then went to third on Cody Decker’s seventh double of the year. Nido came home on a Taylor RBI single, but Decker came home on a double play grounder, which took the air out of the inning.

Ford led off the Thunder 6th with his eleventh double of the year, went to third on a sac bunt, and then scored on a sac fly to put Trenton back on top 4-3.
The Thunder added on against a wild Scarlyn Reyes in the 7th, pushing their lead to 6-3 before Kelly Secrest came in to clean things up. Secrest allowed three base runners over his 1.2 IP, but he stranded those three plus an inherited runner to keep things close. Unfortunately, the Rumble Ponies offense was out of hits for the night, as Cortes retired the final eleven Binghamton batters of the game for the win.
After falling to three games behind the Thunder, the Rumble Ponies headed back to Binghamton to open a weekend series with the Portland Sea Dogs (23-26). Mickey Jannis (3-1, 3.86 ERA) is currently the scheduled starter for Binghamton in the opener, which has a game time of 7:05 PM, and he’s due to square off against Teddy Stankiewicz (2-2, 3.56 ERA).
