Recap:
The
Las Vegas 51s and Tacoma Rainiers officially split a double-header Tuesday
night, but the only thing anyone will be talking about is the performance from
Noah Syndergaard in game one. He was awesome. It looked like he had a plan to
start every inning, as he was mixing up his pitches and working ahead in the
count much of the night. The 51s offense jumped on Rainiers starter James
Paxton in the 1st inning of game one – M∂D would give Thor all the
offense he needed when he deposited the fourth pitch of the game beyond the RF
wall. Josh Satin contributed a two-run homerun in the first inning as well, and
it was all about the pitching the rest of the way.
He won’t get as much attention, but
M∂D had a ridiculous night, combining to go 5-8 with 2 doubles, a homerun and 4
RBI. His strikeout rate is down to an average PCL rate, which is a sign that he
can make adjustments at a level if given time. I still think he’ll surprise us
all by breaking out in the majors at some point. This is what he’s hitting
since his demotion: .394/.468/.679 with 12 doubles, 5 triples, 3 homeruns, 17
RBI, 4/6 SB, and 18 SO: 14 BB in 124 PA.
The offenses stayed dormant
throughout game two, but the Rainiers were able to score three runs against
Alvarado before knocking him out after three. Things could have ended up worse
for Alvarado, but he caught Ty Kelly looking with runners on 2B and 3B to end
the 1st. Muno singled, stole second and scored on a Seratelli single
to tie the game in the top of the 3rd, but then the Rainiers bounced
back with two in the bottom half. M∂D would hit a two-out double to drive in
two runs in the 7th, but the late charge came up just short.
