Recap:
The
BMets got back to their winning ways Friday night behind the hot arm of starter
Greg Peavey. Peavey, who has struggled to adjust to AAA with the Las Vegas 51s,
continued to prove too good for AA, needing only 100 pitches to get through 8
IP. Infielders Brian Burgamy and T.J. Rivera kept hitting, each providing a big
hit in the key 4th inning rally that would give the Mets a permanent
lead. Jayce Boyd provided a solo blast to CF in the 6th to put the
Mets up 3-1, his fifth homerun of the season. On an odd play in the 7th,
the BMets scored two runs on a strikeout. With Nimmo on 2B and Ceciliani on 3B,
Herrera chased a pitch in the dirt and then bolted for 1B. The ball bounced in
front of the catcher O’Brien, who recovered it and checked on 3B before
throwing to 1B for the out. As soon as O’Brien made the throw to 1B, Ceciliani
broke for home, making it safely without a throw. There was no return throw
home because the ball was dropped at 1B (trying to take it out of his glove),
and Nimmo had bolted for 3B, which is where the throw ended up going. Nimmo was
likely going to be safe at 3B anyway, but the throw sailed up the LF line, so
Nimmo got up and bolted home. Peavey gave way to Jon Velasquez for the 9th,
and he struck out the side to finish the game.
