Recap:
The
rain could not save the Cyclones Wednesday night in Aberdeen, as the Cyclones
and Iron Birds waited it out and then got all nine innings in. After jumping
out to a 1-0 1st inning lead, some poor defense in the bottom half
made things tougher for Brooklyn starter Casey Meisner than they had to be.
After the lengthy rain delay, the Cyclones offense could not get much going
against the Iron Birds bullpen, managing only a run on six hits the rest of the
way. The Cyclones got a good extended effort from their bullpen too, allowing
only the one earned run (and one unearned) on four hits the rest of the way.
Amed Rosario continued his hot hitting, though he had a rough night in the
field, which is not too concerning for a NY Penn league player.
Casey Meisner
He
only got to pitch the 1st inning thanks to the rain, but it was a
long inning for Meisner, who allowed three runs on four hits. Aberdeen leadoff
hitter Jay Gonzalez dropped a great bunt between the mound, home plate and 3B,
which is an automatic single for someone with his speed, but turned into a
little league triple when Meisner tried to make the impossible play and threw
it up the RF line. The next batter hit a grounder to Rosario that should have
been the first out, but it was booted.
Austin
Anderson made some serious contact off of Meisner next, driving the ball to the
right-center field-warning track, where it bounced over the wall. Alex Murphy
then hit a hard single into LF that was just passed Rosario.
This made it 2-1 |
Meisner would finally get the first
out of the inning, when he struck out Hector Veloz looking. The Iron Birds
added one more run on a bunt single from Riley Palmer that was just out of
Meisner’s reach. The final two hitters of the inning would fly out to Conforto in
LF as lots of wind started gusting throughout the ballpark preceding the rain.
Wind made this an even tougher catch for Conforto |
Amed Rosario
Had
a big day at the plate, but they were focusing on the pitcher’s mechanics when
he hit his two singles – unfortunate timing, but there was a consolation side
angle of his swing.
Right before he tripled, he just missed good contact with this swing |
Well struck triple, very nice |
Michael Conforto
As
expected, Conforto seems to be handling the NY Penn league just fine.
Conforto had no problem facing this lefty |
Pulled this single into RF |
Will Fulmer
Spend
some time in RF and looked awkward on a triple that went over his head.
Odd infield single here |
Jhoan Urena
He
also had an RBI groundout in the 3rd and some nice defensive plays.
Urena slaps this single into LF |
Adrian Abreu
Seems
to have taken over the leadoff spot for the Cyclones.
Another seeing eye single for the Cyclones |
