Astromets
Mind looked at all Mets minor leaguers results from June – Savannah and
higher, more teams to be added in the July report.
Someone
finally cleared up the Amed Rosario question – he’s been out with a bruised
thumb.
Listen to Matthew Bowman discuss his improvements this season in a pre-rain out interview with Tim Heiman. “Instead of nitpicking, I’ve been a little more aggressive… Abby, our pitching coach, kept pulling me aside and saying, ‘Hey, you have to be more aggressive, these hitters aren’t that great.’” He goes on to say that when Travis ∂’Arnaud came, he decided it would be foolish to shake him off, and he’s learned to really trust his catchers since. “You have to trust that [the poor outings] are the outlier and you’re stuff is going to take you further than that and give you more consistent results.” He also discussed how his spring training hamstring injury affected his mechanics earlier in the season.
Vavel makes a case for Wally Backman as Mets manager based on his experience with some of the younger Mets players as well as his reputation for getting his guys to ‘run through a wall for him’. Not mentioned is that he also has a reputation for making a higher than average number of pitching changes and questionable bunt calls. I don’t think Wally is a good choice for the Mets manager, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have success if he became Mets manager over the next few seasons – I just don’t think managers make that big of a deal.

The

The

Beacon Record discussed Ward Melville’s own Steven Matz. I went to Ward
Melville (class of 2005), so I’ve always felt a little extra incentive to root
for him, and it’s very exciting seeing him this successful. Astromets
Mind covered his second start for the B-Mets, when he went six scoreless
with nine strikeouts. Side note: Se Port Deli is amazing and the Matz is a good
sandwich (though I prefer the Boone or Gasm).
Bleacher
Report assembled all the latest IFA signing’s that the Mets have been
involved with.
