Recap:
Too
bad he was on a limited pitch count, as Rainy Lara was very strong against the
Rock Cats for the first six innings of the game, and left with only 83 pitches.
He would strikeout four Rock Cats in a row at one point, and his only blemish
was a solo blast that Reynaldo Rodriguez hit off of him in the 2nd.
Offensively, Dustin Lawley was the star, finishing a triple shy of the cycle
with four runs driven in.
Lawley
got the B-Mets 2nd inning rally started with a leadoff single to
center.
Brandon
Nimmo would follow by grounding into a fielder’s choice (3-6), and then Travis
Taijeron drew a walk. Ceciliani would reach on an infield single (on the 10th
pitch!) to load the bases with one out, but Xorge Carrillo struck out swinging,
leaving it up to Rylan Sandoval. Fortunately, Sandoval came through with a big
hit up the middle, driving in the first two runs of the game.
The
only run that Rainy Lara gave up was on a one-out solo blast from Rodriguez in
the bottom of the 2nd. He bounced back to get Brandon Waring looking
before a groundout ended the inning.
New
Britain would threaten against Lara in the 3rd, as Kyle Knudson hit
a one out double and Aaron Kicks drew a two-out walk, but Lara picked up a huge
strikeout of Eddie Rosario to end the frame.
Lara
had an awesome inning in the 4th, striking out the side in order – a
streak of four straight strikeouts:
Kennys Vargas swinging.
Rodriguez swinging.
Waring looking.
The
game stayed 2-1 until the top of the 7th, when a Kyle Johnson HBP
started a two-out rally. Herrera drew a walk to put Johnson in scoring position
for Jacye Boyd, who drove Johnson in with a single to center.
Lawley
then doubled in both Herrera and Boyd, putting the Mets up 5-1.
Jon
Velasquez replaced Lara in the 7th and allowed a run to score, but
the Mets would get it right back in the top of the 8th. After
Ceciliani reached on an error, Carrillo singled him over and Sandoval singled
him in. Huchingson came in for the bottom of the 8th and had a 1-2-3
inning, striking out Rosario in between two groundouts.
The
Mets would tack on two more thanks to a two-run homerun from Lawley in the 9th
– Boyd drew a walk to leadoff the inning.
Randy
Fontanez came for the 9th and gave up a leadoff homerun to
Rodriguez, his second of the night, but then got the next three in a row to
finish the game.
We'll go between the sun and Pluto again this Friday, July 4. http://t.co/bIVMao9ncz
