Mets Series in Review: vs. Marlins

Dates: July 11-13

Results: Sweep 3

 W 7-1, W 5-4, W 9-1

Current Record: 45-50, 7 GB in East, 7 GB in Wild Card

Recaps:

MVMet: David Wright, Dubz, Captain America, #5 on the Mets and #1 in our hearts, had a big impact on both Friday nights’ game and Sunday afternoon’s game. He didn’t always have the best numbers throughout the first half, but he has been awesome since getting some rest to nurse his shoulder. Hopefully the rest during the All-Star break keeps him fresh, and Terry Collins has finally learned to give more occasional off days to his best player.
LVMet: I almost feel like not choosing an LVMet when they sweep, and sometimes there might not be, but the Mets lone All-Star representative for 2014, Daniel Murphy, didn’t contribute much offensively over the first two games, and grounded into a double play in the 7th inning of Saturday’s game, temporarily halting the Mets momentum. He did have an impressive catch to keep that game tied though.

Bullpen:

A very dominant performance by the bullpen over the weekend, stopping the few comeback attempts the Marlins offense could muster – Damn it feels good to have a bullpen.

            7.1 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 SO, 9 GO: 4 FO

Looking Ahead:

Sadly, the Mets have four days off this week, and then start a (mostly) west coast 10-game road trip through San Diego (3 games), Seattle (3), and Milwaukee (4) – should be fun. With good starting pitching, a good bullpen, and a lineup that has been clicking lately, there’s a good feeling about this Mets team as we head into the All-Star break. The starters listed aren’t confirmed yet, but I’ll plan to edit this when they are.

Saturday at 8:40 PM: Dillon Gee
Sunday at 4:10 PM: Zack Wheeler
