Recap:

Savannah starter Robert Gsellman found himself on the short end of an excellent pitcher’s duel with Lexington starter Pedro Fernandez Saturday, as the Gnats fell 1-0 in the series opener. Gsellman was very sharp all night, but the Gnats offense was not, managing only three scattered singles, and very few scoring chances. The best chance for the Gnats came in the 7th, when they left the bases loaded, and the legs of Champ Stuart created their other chances. Stuart would leave the game early after being hit by a pitch in his left hand, but he was the only spark before he left. With one out in the first, he walked and stole 2B on the second pitch to Dominic Smith – he would be stranded at 3B. In his next AB, he got hit in the hand and spent a few minutes under close inspection of the trainer. On the first pitch after play resumed, Stuart was off for 2B again, making it easily. Gsellman was fun to watch, as he worked quick and around the zone all night. I wish there was an outfield camera angle, as it’s difficult to judge his pitches in the view used in Lexington, and so I only labeled the pitches I was certain about.
