Recap with gifs:
Though
game one ended up a not so close game, this double-header was a pitcher’s duel
on both ends. Ricky Knapp was very effective through five innings, allowing
only a run on five hits, but got in trouble in the 6th, and couldn’t
be bailed out by relief pitcher John Mincone. Mincone came in with two runners
on and two out and allowed both runners to score. Three Charleston pitchers
combined to mostly shut down the Savannah offense, with 7 hits allowed and 7
SO: 2 BB in 7 IP. Game two was all about Savannah starter Alvarez, who struck
out five in a row before walking his last batter of the night in the 5th.
Carnevale and Morris retired all 8 batters they faced to keep the shutout in
tact.
Jonathan
Leroux provides one of the few offensive highlights of the night with this long
double to LF that might have been caught by a stronger defender – ball appears
to bounce off his glove.
Smith
scored the only Savannah run in game one after leading off the 2nd
inning with this double.
With
two outs in the inning, Ruiz would drive him in with this triple into the LF
corner.
Those
are all the game one highlights worth gifing.
After
allowing a one-out single in the 1st, Alvarez would retire the next
two batters on strikes:
Dustin Fowler swinging.
Reymond Nunez looking. This was the only 3-ball count
Alvarez got into until he walked his final batter.
Jorge
Rivero provided all the offense that Savannah would need in game two when he
drove home Matt Oberste from 1B with this double into the LF corner.
Alvarez
started the 2nd inning with his third straight strikeout – Eduardo de
Oleo looking.
After
a two out single, Alvarez got Gosuke Katoh swinging to end the inning.
Alvarez
got Brandon Thomas swinging to start the 3rd.
After
a fly out to LF, Alvarez would retire the next five batters he faced with a
strikeout:
Tyler Wade looking
Fowler swinging.
Nunez looking.
de Oleo swinging.
Miguel Andujar swinging.
Carnevale
came in after the one-out walk and retired Katoh swinging.
After
the Sand Gnats added an insurance run when Oberste scored on a wild pitch in
the top of the 7th, Morris came on for the save. He would strikeout
the side:
Nunez swinging.
de Oleo looking.
Andujar swinging.
