Recap:
Some
poor defense in the 3rd, three wild pitches in the 9th,
missed opportunities late, and a walk-off blast from Petit combined to end the
Las Vegas 51s three game-winning streak. 51s highlights can be found below in
gif form. I wanted to include the walk-off HR, but the archives cut out before
the bottom of the 12th. These recaps take some time, so I won’t
always be able to put them together, but they are more fun than the standard
written ones.
T∂A
got things starting in the top of the 1st with this HR to the
bullpen beyond LF.
This
start was very much in line with what Verrett has done all season; here are his
first three strikeouts:
Domingo Santana swinging in the 1st.
Matt Duff swinging in the 1st.
Max Stassi swinging in the 2nd.
OKC
scored two in the 3rd and threatened for more, but Cory Vaughn made
this catch at the wall to end the inning.
Allan
Dykstra stroked this one-out single to RF in the 4th.
Cory
Vaughn followed with this blast to CF to tie the game.
Verrett
would have one more strikeout, of Erik Castro in the 4th.
Bradford
pitched two very nice innings; here he gets Erik Castro swinging in the 6th.
With
one out and nobody on base, Cesar Puello tried to bunt his way on and appears
to have been safe.
Anthony
Seratelli would later give the 51s a 5-4 lead with this two-run double with two
outs in the 7th – what more could there have been if Puello was called
safe?
Bradford
struck out Ronald Torreyes swinging in the bottom of the 7th, as
part of a 1-2-3 inning.
The
last gif I have is of the wild pitch that tied the game in the 9th.
First, let’s recap the bottom of the 8th and bottom of the 9th.
After two sparkling innings from Bradford, Backman turned to vet (and recent
Met) Buddy Carlyle to start the 8th. He got Marc Krauss to strike
out swinging and Matt Duffy to line out to RF. He was then replaced for Miguel
Socolovich to face a righty (?). Not sure why he felt the need to make that
switch, but safe to say the Socolovich did not have his best stuff Friday night
– he allowed two men to reach before ending the 8th and then a
leadoff single in the 9th. He’d then get two outs before throwing a
wild pitch and walking Domingo Santana. Then Backman brought in Scott Rice to
face the lefty hitting Krauss. Rice also threw a wild pitch and walked the
batter. Then Backman brought in Church to face the righty hitting Duffy. Church
also threw a wild pitch and walked the batter. What a disaster.
