Recap in gifs:
The
Savannah Sand Gnats started the second half off on the right foot with a win,
pushing their overall record on the season to 45-22. Gsellman and the bullpen
did their job effectively and a red-hot Jonathon Leroux led the offensive
attack.
After
the Gnats went down in order in the top of the first, Robert Gsellman went out
and did the same in the bottom, including striking out the first batter to see
him – Forrestt Allday swinging.
Leroux
got the 2nd inning rally started with a one out single.
Jorge
Rivero followed with a single of his own.
Colton
Plaia with drive them both in with this double.
Gsellman
picked up his second strikeout when he got Carlos Asuaje swinging to lead off
the 2nd.
Wendell
Rijo would double to RF, but was thrown out trying to extend it to a triple.
Manuel Margot would follow with this flare to RF that got passed a diving
Biondi and bounced around long enough for him to touch them all.
The
Gnats wouldn’t wait long to get the run back though, thanks to the speed of
Patrick Biondi. He reached on a HBP to the shoulder and the announcer was
saying the Gnats might take him out. He would stay in the game and steal 2B and
3B on consecutive pitches, coming into to score after his steal of 3B thanks to
an errant throw from the Greenville catcher.
Gsellman
will freeze hitters all night with a nice curve; here he gets Zach Kapstein
looking for the second out of the 3rd.
After
a 1-1 count to Margot with two outs in the 4th, he went back-to-back
curveballs to strike him out.
He
picked up his final strikeout of the night by getting Kapstein swinging for the
second out in the 5th.
Dominic
Smith got things started in the top of the 6th with this double.
Leroux
followed with this RBI triple.
After
Rivero walked and Plaia struck out, Stefan Sabol drove in Leroux with this
double.
Rivero
would score thanks to this wild pitch.
Dario
Alvarez came in to relieve Gsellman with two on and two outs in the 6th
and gave up and RBI double to Margot. He would then get Kendrick Perkins to
strike out swinging on a passed ball by Plaia, which allowed Rijo to score from
3B.
Alvarez
would stay on for the 7th, which is when he got Allday to strikeout
swinging with Kapstein on 1B.
Alvarez
would yield to Hunter Carnevale with one out and nobody on in the 8th.
Carnevale would get his first batter, Rijo, to strike out swinging.
After
a throwing error kept the inning alive, Carnevale picked up his second
strikeout of the night, getting Kendrick Perkins swinging.
