Recap:

Noah Syndergaard continued his streak of effective pitching Tuesday night in Iowa, and the 51s held on for a late win in game one. Outside of a long 3rd inning, Thor was working quickly and effectively all night, pitching until he was too close to his pitch limit to continue. Offensively, Josh Satin and Cory Vaughn carried the load with some huge performances. Vaughn got the scoring started when he tripled in Kevin Plawecki from 1B in the 2nd, and Satin would provide the go-ahead RBI double in the 9th to seal the deal. Miguel Socolovich came in to finish off a scoreless 7th after Thor reached his pitch limit – Thor was allowed to come in and face two batters, walking the leadoff batter before striking out the last batter he’d face. Chase Bradford came in for the 8th but could not hold onto the lead, taking his first blown save in 27 appearances since joining Las Vegas. Gonzalez Germen was able to hold onto the lead in the 9th, although he had some trouble to deal with. Germen has been very effective and consistent since returning to Las Vegas.
Kevin Plawecki reached in the 2nd with this single.

Plawecki's first hit of the night

Cory Vaughn would drive him in with this well placed triple – it would stop under a bullpen chair and the outfielder thought it was a dead ball.

Vaughn with the triple into the LF corner

With two outs, Seratelli would follow with this perfect bunt single to drive Vaughn home from 3B – ballsy.

Why doesn't he do this more often?

After Thor led off the 5th with a single and Puello failed to bunt him over to 2B (really Wally?), Reynolds would follow with this single to LF.

Reynolds only hit of the night

Josh Satin would follow with this RBI hit up the middle.

Satin ties the game at 3

Cory Vaughn led off the 6th inning with this long blast to LF – they didn’t show where it went but both the home and away announcers were impressed.

Vaughn with a long HR to LF

After Matt Reynolds led off the 7th with a walk, Satin would line a single to CF on a hit’n’run play that would send Reynolds to 3B – Reynolds would score on a Brandon Allen sac fly.

Satin picks up his second hit of the night

Puello led off the 9th with his only hit of the night.

Puello lines a single into CF

After Reynolds bunted Puello over to 2B, Satin would double him in with this fly ball off the right-center field wall.

The biggest hit of the night

Kevin Plawecki would load the bases up with this two out infield single, but Vaughn would fly out to end the inning with the bases loaded.

Kind of an odd play
